Any religious people here read yaoi or yuri? It doesn't matter if it's a bit or reaaally religious. I'm just plain curious What makes you read them?

I mean, the reasons are probably the same as anyone else's, but what I assume you want to know is how they reconcile it with their religious convictions.

I was thinking if I should really reply to this post ....but I don't like thinking too deep so here I am.
Well,you could say I'm a religious person and you can probably guess my religion of you look closely at my profile.
My religion does not allow same-sex relations and people usually don't mention related stuff either.

What makes/made me read yaoi??

At the beginning it was curiosity and I did think for a minute that it was weird but now I read it mainly for the plot.

My thoughts on yaoi

A pretty good question and frankly speaking I don't feel anything special in support of it or against it...(as a matter of fact I question myself a dozen of times on why I read yaoi. I was running out of of completed shounen and shoujo got too annoying).
I think some stories are to be read for the plot only regardless of the genre but I'm still against ecchi/hentai lol.

At the moment I like to think of reading yaoi as killing time and nothing more.

....@Nightswan- hypocrisy --it pretty much could be the case here. Also if you're talking about the guilt-feel --I never did feel it for some reason. Though I did feel it was not right at the beginning, the feeling was never as overwhelming as to make me stop and think things over. In some matters I try to keep religion separate. (On a side note---reading yaoi has had absolutely no effects on me and the way I perceive and carry out my religion so I don't see why I should be "anti-yaoi/yuri")

This question makes me wonder if I'll be damned for reading yaoi. I prefer not to think about it.

Well, if you were to take your religion too seriously, which I see that you don't (and it's a good thing), you would be against any depictions of homosexuality in any form.

You won't be damned, because it's all nonsense, so don't worry and enjoy the goodies!

I'm a religious person, a Christian to be exact. I just don't think there's a problem with it. Homosexuality is frowned upon by a number of Christians but let's just say that's because on how they interpret the bible. Many tend to depend on the words of the church and most probably don't read the bible tbh, and if they do, they don't try to even understand it. If these people do actually try to read it they'll know that when a homosexual topic comes out, worshipping idols are next. Those people who wa engaged in homosexuality in the bible, were also worshipping idols which is the big no no. Events in the bible took place during the time where one of the things to measure success is through your family (like your children). Obviously a sperm cell and sperm cell or egg cell and egg cell cannot create another living so how can you be called successful during the time. Anyway we are in the 21st century, though I still could understand if many Christian still follow the traditional way

I respect that you are an atheist (most probably) and do not believe in any higher power. However, that does not give you the right to call what people believe in for "nonsense". You should respect that people are different and view life differently than you. You will receive a lot more in life if you learn the art of Mutual respect. Just saying

To answer the original question. I may be called religious by some, because I practice a couple of things that my religion proclaims, however it's a rather tough question to answer. Being religious means different things in different religions. Either way, I will keep it simple by answering Yes to your question.

Although my religion does not support homosexuality, I have never seen that as a reason to stop reading yaoi because I personally support same sex relationships. I believe in the conviction that I have no right to judge anyone and that people are free to do whatever they want as long as they don't hurt other people.

I started reading yaoi because of curiosity like many others here. Did I stop and think about if it's wrong?No, because I enjoyed it. Like zephyr4 mentioned, reading yaoi hasn't made me carry out my religion differently.
