We're homogeneous group, same with Japanese people.

We don't like foreigners, neither do you. It's just that we're more open about it than y'all but look at it this way - how hard is it to get a green card? If you were born here, you don't need to ever worry about green cards.

It just the difference between a livelihood and entertainment folks.

At least, Japan doesn't always block foreign access to a lot of sites. The "gaijin" label would stick by being in Japan (except for people who can blend in...which I wish I didn't otherwise I would be mistaken as one until I open my mouth..) On 2ch, they would definitely feel wary of a foreigner on the site so they all act their politeness routine. I actually find it a bit contradicting of blocking foreign access when those who live overseas use foreign access to sign into the sites. *shrugs* Oh well. Every country does restrict a certain site to its own country (but for the harmless sites, I think that's unfair to foreigners.)

I'm glad I wasn't born in a homogeneous country called Taiwan. Then again, Taiwan isn't really so homogeneous at all compared to a lot of the other Asian countries. They're pretty accepting to lots of tourists and foreigners alike.


Not necessarily bragging but you got a point on the complaints. Just expressing our feelings as you said. "Freedom of speech" I understand that it's annoying and you guys want your privacy. There are just some people out there who enjoy experiencing a bit of the Korean culture.

I just like to hunt for manhwa raws cause it's fun (/tempting) while waiting for the next volume to come out in English (almost 2 years now). It's easy to get manga raws but not Korean ones which is better anyways. I would actually prefer it to pay to see stuff rather than seeing an entire volume online for free. The Koryo bookstore near me doesn't carry manhwa unfortunately or I would buy Party. I have yet to check the other Koryo bookstore if it carries manhwa. I doubt it though. (Now, if only Han-Ah-Reum had its own bookstore... Has everything else though.)

Oh, and not everything works via P2P for some people. Some things just don't come by through P2P. ;) But that's their problems. I use torrents for Japanese related stuff only.

FYI, there are some American sites that don't allow foreign IPs to use their service, even if free. Before calling others discriminatory, you should consider this factor.

Man, and here I thought they only wanted a government assigned ID number for credit check and social activity record purposes. Hopefully, no nation in the future gets the ingenious idea of requiring implanted ID chips in order to access foreign sites.

O.o And who isn't aware of that? Itunes blocks foreign access. So does kid friendly sites like nick.com and the Canadian site, YTV (for video viewing). All of which aren't fair and most people within those countries would agree that those aren't fair towards their online friends from other countries. A lot of countries in this planet blocks foreign IPs for certain sites to keep the national viewing within the country. South Korea is the only one that I've encountered that goes a little beyond it.

And what gave you the idea that being afraid/not liking foreigners is really discrimination? To me, I just see it that they aren't comfortable with foreigners and they want their privacy. >_> They're not use to seeing or being in the environment with someone of a different nationality.

i like foreigners. o_o. and i'm korean. but maybe it's just me cuz my parents aren't all that comfortable with other races...


but since they have the most intense programmers, they'll also have some of the most intense hackers. ;]

You should know that 1 in 10 marriages in Korea last year was with a partner of different nationality. Also, it's quite normal to see a "foreigner" in the streets in many areas of the city of Seoul. That and, there are many talk shows / reality shows with people born out of this country. Sure, there are those who truly aren't comfortable with "foreigners", but those people are becoming or have become a great minority.

Another thing you should consider is that some other countries (such as Japan) have considered making a national social security system quite like the one in Korea. Also, there are some Korean sites that do allow a person to register without using their KSSN, aka jjang0u.com.

It's putting all of a country into one group that is quite irritating. Many people have different views on issues like these, and not all of one ethinicty/nationality feels that same way.

^ Oh. O.o Is that what's really getting to you? Don't worry. This thread isn't meant to group South Korea as a whole. Even I know there are a lot of South Koreans who welcome foreigners. When I refer to the ones who aren't comfortable with foreigners, I defintely mean the minority ones. ;)

This whole thread is really just a small rant towards the Korean government. Nothing to do with the people. Whether they do like or not like foreigners is a universal concept.

tgirl, you are looking for the raws right? Couldn't you just go to a rental place? There are tons of comic rental stores in Korea, unless you want to buy the books. If you do, then just go to bigger stores than the ones you're looking in. But then again, it depends on where you live.
