Oneshot manga are manga stories that are only one chapter long or one volume long. I really enjoy a good oneshot manga because if the story line is good, you will be able to enjoy a good story in a short period of time. If the story line is bad you can move onto the next one quickly. Oneshot manga are like compact little treats!!
I posted this thread here in the manga general forum because oneshot manga can span all types of genres.
I mostly read shoujo/josei oneshot manga but I have also read several horror, psychological and shounen oneshots as well.
Here are some of my favorites to start off:
Happy Every Day
Megumi works in a convenience store just because every day she know her crush, who she refers to as the prince, will walk in to buy something. She always has a smile ready for him. Will she ever get closer to him? I loooved this one. Simple story but so darn cute!
Daydream World (Yasuko)
The girl is a romantic who has never had a boyfriend. She world at an amusement park part-time. Her classmate suddenly starts working there too. He already has a girlfriend and is working part-time to buy her a Christmas present. Pretty cute
Haikei, Nanashi-sama
Terao Chigusa is a super shy girl who gets really nervous when talking to people. She loves to read romance novels and has always loved a certain book called "Dear, Mr. Nameless." One day, she ends up living the same situation as her beloved book!? How will she react!? My heart exploded after I read this one...I don't know how I'm still alive
lolFirst Love (Aruko)
A girl was bullied by a boy when she was in elementary school. Now in her first year of high school, the same boy confesses his love for her and she decided to go out with him for the sole purpose of dumping him and getting her revenge!!!! Comedy and romance, loved it
Line
When popular high school student Chiko finds a cell phone, the voice on the other end tells her where a suicide is about to happen. First in disbelief, Chiko soon finds the person on the phone is speaking the truth. The phone doesn't stop ringing. Chiko and her female classmate Bando have to race against time try and stop the suicides.
The Kidnapping of Minja Jo’s Boyfriend
Two high school girls are enemies and the heads of their own gangs. They fight each other all the time, and to get even with the other, one girl decides to kidnap the other's boyfriend. But the information her second in command gives her is wrong, and they kidnap some really good-looking guy who is NOT the boyfriend of the other girl. Chaos ensues, really funny
Kimi no Kachi - Story 1 - You Win
This is a story about a girl who thinks the popular guy in her class is rude even though everyone else thinks he's pretty great. After the routine seat change, he becomes her desk neighbor so she gets to know him a little better.
Suki Kirai Suki
Hitomi loves Miyamoto, her classmate. Just before the entrance exam for high school, she has two chances to make a confession but doesn't really have to courage to do it, so she decides to leave it for after the exam. Or at least that's what she thought...I remember that it was a pretty good story.
Kiss, Zekkou, Kiss
Hatori is the class loudmouth and Sakisasa the class goody two shoes. She ignores him and he gets even more rambunctious trying to get under her skin. He finally resorts to planting a kiss on her lips. She pushes him away and since that day he thinks she hates him. They move onto the same middle school, that tension still between them. What will come of it? There is a story at the end that tells the tale from the pov of the guy. It's a stand alone one volume but it has a sequel series.
Kinjirareta Ai no Kajitsu - Story 2 - I Want
An 18 year old school-girl begins an affair with her dentist who is in a marriage that has already turned cold. What does this cute girl with good grades really want from him? Story is good mainly because of the clever twist at the end.
Orange Kiss - Story 1 - Orange Kiss
Kijima Aka had a dream. In the dream, she and an orange haired boy kissed under the setting sun. And that boy just so happens to be the guy who's in the same class as her, Shimizu! She always thought Shimizu had some kind of grudge against her because he seems to hate her. Will Aka's dream become reality?
Ibitsu
A boy went to take his trash out late one night, and found a strange, creepy, gothic-lolita-dressed woman sitting amongst the garbage bags. She asked if he had a little sister, and he answered her, hurrying afterwards back to his apartment. When he looked out the window, she was gone. Who is the strange woman, and why does she give him such a bad feeling?
Warui Ko no Mikata - Story 3 - Citrus Sweat
A girl goes on a group date only to be stuck with a dude obsessed with being physically fit.
Erimi has dreamed of dating a guy from K West High, a school full of handsome and stylish guys! She goes to a party expecting to meet one of those guys... instead she ends up with Shinichi, a sports mad guy with absolutely no interest in girls! Are Erimi's dating hopes dashed?! I LOOOOOVED THIS!
Koiiro Omoi - Story 2 - Love Ego
Girl is the only one in her group of friends without a bf. This guy in her class laughs at her. He always picks fights with her. It couldn't be because he likes here right? Naaaah!!! This story was GREEEAT!!!
SOOO FUNNY! Houkago Love Age - Story 3 - Kirai Kirai Mo?
A boy is always picking a fight with a girl in his class. He manages to get them stuck together for a class event: a test of courage. I LOVE THIS ONE! SO CUTE!
Ai no Tame ni - Story 1
Akira is a kind girl who loves to be with her friends. Because of her high success rate in matchmaking, her friends have given her the title of "Queen of Introductions" (Matchmaking Queen)! But for some reason, Aki-chan can't seem to get a boyfriend for herself. Funny
Romanticist Egoist
One day at school Sakamoto Riku finds a love confession written on a desk... About her! The message says " I like Sakamoto Riku" with the initials Y. N. beneath it. The most popular guy in school has the same initial, Yoshiki Nakao! Who could her secret admirer be? I like stories that deal with secret messages and love letters and the like
Nonchan to Watashi
Risa and Takumi are childhood friends, but due to a fight in the past, they stopped talking to each other. Now university students, Takumi is a famous playboy who goes out with a different girl every day, and Risa still regrets not having been able to apologize for what she did six years ago... AHH! Too cute!
Always Together
In order to win the heart of her dream boy, an obese girl joins forces with her cousin to lose weight. An amusing take on the topic “obesity” and how the right motivation can work wonders.
Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei
This story is about a young woman who is in her last year of college and is job hunting...unsuccessfully. On her 50th job interview, she meets a guy who was also interviewing but was super confident and great during his interview. After bumping into him again later on the train she wonders if she will ever see him again because even though he slightly annoyed her, she couldn't help be mesmerized by him. This I think is actually two volumes long but I still consider it a short story
Hidarite no Love Letter - Story 1
A girl likes the guy who sits next to her. She's pretty shy and can't convey her feelings. Her habit of writing herself reminders on her left hand may help her along. It's fluff but soo sweet and cute and a quick read.
Saikou no Kiss wo Ageru - Story 1 - Heartbeat Mail
A girl likes a guy in her class but is too shy to talk to him. She secretly finds out his phone number and texts him anonymously. He keeps up the conversation with her through text...the girl is over the moon but soon just text won't be enough...how will she tell him who she really is? OMG, half way through the story you're going to have to stop reading, flail around, silent scream, throw a pillow across the room and then continue reading lol trust me
The Dress
A temptation from which you can't escape...it involves a dress and it is pretty short so just read it! Horror genre.
