This week's poll comes from our member TAK3Z0. Would you read a series from your favorite author but is heavily focused on a genre that you really dislike (i.e., harem)? Probably doesn't occur too often in actuality, but comment below if this actually happened to you before!

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)

The winners are expert classes in a classis RPG scenario, so i will assume that most chose them on how bad-ass they sound. The manga scene is also currently being buried in soulless RPG-lights, so the poll´s timing fit.

Try reading it right away. Pure genres don´t exist and only good writing does. Which genre would FMA, Eva or FCLC fit for example? Berserk ran though every variation of fantasy possible and Batman famously goes with everything. Variety is the spice of life.

I'd try reading it. They're my favorite mangaka for a reason. I'd have faith that they could make any genre good.

It's my favourite mangaka of course I'll read it mmm...
Also I don't really have any genre I "really dislike", unless it's something like hardcore yaoi or hardcore weird gore, I'll read it through, but I'll try to read it no matter what mmm...

There are only a handful of genre I really dislike, so it's never happened to me. Besides, I don't have a favourite author, as such; I guess the closest would be Urushibara Yuki, Kaitani Shinobu, Matsumoto Taiyou and Urasawa Naoki, but each of them have series I don't read and never plan to: not because of their genres, but because the plot and/or characters don't interest me. It's illogical to read something just because of who wrote it, even when you're almost certain to dislike it. No author's perfect.

So I choose: Skip it entirely. But with the caveat that it'll depend on the story itself and not on its genre(s).

I chose skip entirely. There are few genres I dislike enough not to read so if a writer goes into said genre, I'll leave it for other people.

That was a great list of favorite authors! I looked them all up, and found they all had created strong stories full of feeling. I will be following up on their works.

There's some genres I'm not a fan of or don't generally excite me, but if its an author I really like (and this isn't just limited to manga either) I'd give it a shot. You don't know if they will take a different approach to the genre and "shake things up" making for an interesting read or if they will put out a predictable work that doesn't stand out from the rest. So, since I'm willing to give things a chance (especially if the author has a proven track record with me) I picked try reading it right away.

A combination between "Try reading it right away" and "Only read it if other people say it's good" suits me. I might read other people's comments and then read the first chapter.

If it's a genre i really dislike then skip it entirely. A good example would be Asagiri Yu, she used to be a shoujo mangaka (i read some of her early works) then she became a yaoi mangaka. But if it's just something like Obata Takeshi do, where he is usually the artist while the author is someone else. Hikaru no go (sports/games), Death note (psychological), etc i would try reading it, especially when people say it's good.

It's by my favorite mangaka, so of course I'm gonna jump on it like a starved hobo.

Ah...chose wrong. I should have chosen skip entirely because I avoid horror like the plague.
I chose try reading because i strongly dislike harems but I always try them to see if they're worth the read...

Skip entirely. I can deal with yaoi & shounen-ai but if they ever go full Bara then nope.

I can't really remember any genre I would dislike. And anyway, whatever greatest author Fukumoto Nobuyuki does, I'll read no matter what.

Of course I would try reading it right away. I mean who would not? Your favorite mangaka suddenly writes something in an unexpected genre? (they wouldnt be your favorite if they didnt usually write a genre you enjoy)

It would be something novel to check out at the very least.
