I'm looking for novels by north American authors to read, I know this is a manga site, but this place knows my taste so well and doesn't judge. So I like older male younger female types, action/ fantasy is nice. Strong female leads. Nothing realistic like "she jammed to panic at the disco on her iPod" XD
Please any suggestions!
Thank you💙

If you're fine with books targeted for a teenage audience, anything by Tamora Pierce fits the bill. I'd start with The Song of the Lioness series and then continuing reading based on publication order of everything set in the Tortall universe. So the order would be:
The list above is for the series titles, not the book titles. Each series has 3-4 books, but I think the max pages is like 400 pages per book. Every book features a strong female protagonist. They're all linked together and share many of the same characters (except for Provost's Dog, which takes place as a prequel series set 200 years before the others). Setting is low fantasy in a medieval setting with magic. The gods have some influence in the events of the world. Only The Immortals series heavily emphasizes magic, while the rest of the series deal more with knights, thieves, and spies.
Her other set of books is the Circle universe, which is also low fantasy in a medieval setting, but deals specifically with magic. Unlike the Tortall Universe, 1 of the protagonists is male
Tamora Pierce was one of my favorite authors while growing up, and I checked out a lot of her books from the library (multiple libraries, since no single library had everything). She was writing strong female protagonists way before Suzanne Collins' Katniss Everdeen.

Another one I have fond memories of is Year of the Griffin by Diana Wynne Jones, but she's British and not American... Jones also wrote Howl's Moving Castle, which the Miyazaki film is based on. Year of the Griffin's main character is a young female griffin who goes to school to learn magic (think Harry Potter).

Thank you! I had no clue where to start. The series you suggested sounds perfect! I really cannot wait to start reading it. I'll be sure to read them in order too.
