For me, it was definitely the anime that aired on Kids WB. It was the original Pokemon series and Cardcaptor Sakura! Didn't have cable TV, so no Toonami/Adult Swim, and I missed out on Gundam and Dragon Ball Z.

Guess it'll be anime for most. Dragonball, Pokemon, Digimon and a lot of older stuff I can't even remember the name of.

I've started reading manga quite early since my sister had a lot of them, but I doubt that was before I watched anime on tv.

Hmm... I'm not too sure mmm...

As far as I remember the first time I read a manga was when I was 5 years old and it was Doraemon vol 8, and I believe the anime of Doraemon already aired the time I was born (1992) in local station, so I guess anime is the first thing that got me into this fandom mmm...

I mean, sure I watched the pokemons and the digimons and the yugiohs on TV but they're not the reason I got into anime/manga. I wasn't even aware "anime" existed as a kid. It wasn't until one day I stumbled across a manga online and I got hooked, I found onemanga (rip) and then my decent into hell began and I'm still here.

Anime, and I'm guessing this time I'm in the majority for a change. We got cable when I was around 14, and it aired Animax for a couple of years before various contract problems made them withdraw their services entirely from our country. My first anime was Gakuen Alice/Alice Academy, but the one that made me really get into anime/manga as a major pastime was Get Backers. Both the anime and the manga are still among my favourite shounen series, and not just because of nostalgia, either.

I haven't watched more than a few episodes each of DBZ, Pokemon, Gundam and CCS. And the only Yu-Gi-Ou I've ever seen is the abridged series. Well, I don't live in the US or Europe, so I guess that makes sense. The only "anime" that air on local channels are Avatar and Bakugan Battle Brawlers, which aren't even real anime, though they advertise them here as "Japanese cartoons."

Anime in form of childern´s shows back in mid 90s Russia. Arabian Nights: Sinbad's Adventures may have been the first. Sailor Moon was the first time i discovered the term anime in 1998 (?), though a female friend. The first manga i bought was Eva btw. but i read random online scans before that. I am a 2 decade vet of the industry, baby.

Anime!! Started watching it on TV as a 2-3 year old kid on TV along with many other cartoons(yes).
Which was first, I can't remember. I can remember watching Dragon Ball, then afterwards Pokémon, Digimon, HxH, Monkey Typhoon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Sailor Moon, Nadia, YuYu Hakusho, Bayblade(it was a huge trend and passion among us kids to battle using Bayblade that were new on market at that time; the smaller the better; bigger ones were quite lousy). Watched many others like Renma ½, Samurai X / Roroni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop and so on. AniMax came afterwards, with it came a boat load of new unwatched(by me) Anime. Cartoon Network(older one; not the lame CN) used to show a decent amount of nice anime too. Before changing One Piece came around on Cartoon network. So many names, I can't even recall at a time sadly. Ah! Childhood was so much full of adventures.

The Sailor Moon anime. I first saw it when I was about 6 years old. Of course I didn't know it was anime then. I also the watched Dragon Ball Z when I was around this age. Some years later, Cartoon Network started their Toonami programming and brought back Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. That's when I found out these shows were anime, and I got into them again along with finding other anime. Then I believe Toonami ended or changed, and I forgot about anime. Then in college I decided to try re-watching Sailor Moon and after I realized I was still into it as an adult, I decided to try looking for other anime. And then a couple of years after getting into anime again I got into manga.

My first anime was the original johto league Pokemon series when I was about 10. I was also obsessed with the game around the same time, much like everyone else I guess. It's hard to say which was first.

I didn't watch any anime again until my friend introduced me to card captor Sakura she picked up by chance in s second hand video shop (way back when videos were still a thing). That was when I was around 12. Shortly after Spirited Away came out and I was obsessed. From then on the flood gates opened and I discovered Naruto, bleach..all the usuals. I think only Dragonball, one piece and sailor moon slipped through the net out of the super popular series, mostly because the manga/anime revolution was slow to come to the uk and I was already a university student by the time it became easy to get hold of manga/anime. As a young teen I was limited to chance finds in second hand shops or whatever I could find on the Internet. Kingdom hearts and final fantasy also became part of my life at this time, so I'm not really sure which got the ball rolling.

Manga wise, the same friend also discovered fushigi Yuugi, which she bought because it was the cheapest one. I was always more into reading than watching, so gradually switched to mostly manga from mostly anime. Now I rarely watch anime at all.

My obsession with Japan started much earlier, from watching old Godzilla films as a young kid.

Anime I guess. I did not know how to read with 2-4 years old, but I did know how to press play on the VCR... Cartoons and Dragon Ball and TMNT.

I did the whole evolution backwards XD.
It began with Anime, then came Manga and now Light/Web Novels.

Anime is the hook that got me into this carving of another world stories. At the early 20th century, manga in my country did not have much covering because of the price(i was too poor to buy them) and quality of the prints. The anime while barely much got licensed(only distributed as CD's), it became rather popular than manga which is why anime is the one that got me interested.

I did watch Pokemon and Naruto when I was a kid but I never knew they were anime.

The biggest contributor was when I started watching Ao Haru Ride. I had this massive crush on Kou and when the anime series ended (they had adapted only the first season of the manga into an anime), I wanted to know where did Touma (the second/rival guy) fit in.

I ended up googling it and discovered that anime are adapted from something called manga. Did a lot of research and ended up finding the manga of Ao Haru Ride.

Stayed up all night to finish it.
Yeah, I liked Mabuchi Kou that much.

So here I am.
No regrets.

It was manga for me. Probably why I still prefer it to anime today.

I was watching anime since I was probably 8, but didn't actually know it was anime, just thought it was another cartoon. Then my friend gave me a copy of Inuyasha and I was hooked on all things manga.
And despite it being my first manga, I never finished the series.

Video games actually came close to introducing me to the fandom as well. Super Smash Bros. Melee introduced me to Fire Emblem, so I would look up the artists, which also led me to discovering manga.

Inuyasha was my first anime that I watched knowing it is anime. I had seen stuff like Totoro and Taotao before and so on, but never really thought of them as anime. just cartoons.
