hate rap~ but many people do~ wonder how they stand it <_<;

I think its' probably because the mainstream stuff now like by most rap fans suck majorly. I bet more people would listen to it if they heard every style and found one they liked. There are many styles of rock, certain like different kinds of rock and say others suck. Sam with rap imo.

But I have to admit, I like Lil Wayne. I'm from New Orleans, and the Hot Boys were big down here, so I'm glad to see that one of them is classified as "The Best Rapper Alive". Doesn't mean I like what he says though...

wtf i can name so many rappers lyrically better then wayne and dont dumb down there rhymes to sell albums that are mainstream (Jay Z, Shady, Nas, Ludacris)..really confused ..the best rapper alive lol..thats funny....the only thing lil wayne has is metaphors

I can't stand Eminem. Lyrically, he's a beast... but I'm not down with that "emo" rap. Get that mess outta here.

Lil' Wayne classified himself as the greatest alive.

He's not even in the top ten. Probably not even the top 25.

Guess that was a slip of the tongue (or fingers in this case) laugh

Yeah, all he does have is metaphors. And I'm surprised you two haven't mention Andre 3000 yet as a favorite.

But it's like I said before, I don't like what he says in his raps. His raps are the same things almost every rapper else says now, just with different synonyms. I'm just glad that he went from being a nobody in almost-impossible-to-live New Orleans, to one of the most talked about rappers today.

Even though killed a LOT of people in their own songs (The best example is "Renegade" from Jay-Z's Blueprint), his beats are the weakest I've ever heard. They're real hard to enjoy, and he's the only rapper I know of where his lyrics are better than his beats.

@ Caliber: cmon, aint no reason to hate on him cuz his background was effed up, Tupac was the king of emo rap and nobody called out for it. at least with eminem he lived it.

@ loosecannon504: lil wayne proclaims he's the best rapper alive on records and ppl start believing it. most people believe Em killed jay on renegade just cuz Ether(who himself got outshined by AZ). its just a matter of opinions, im half agreeing, but Jay did bless us with one of my favorite quotes of all time "Do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it?"

yeah 90's rap is what I listen too, and some old school.
Seriosuly back in the day they can rip it.
Now I know who puts out albums is Eminem. I listen to Nas, but mostly his 90's albums. (mostly)
I should say also that I have a more variety of other music that I like though.

The reason why Eminem killed Jay-Z on that song was due to the fact that it was originally Eminem's song, and Royce da 5'9 was supposed to be on the song as well.
Bout 2 min into the song E says "cause here we go, it's (beatbox) and i'm a sinister"
Royce da 5'9's name was edited out.

Still, it shouldn't have been on Jay-Z album.

@dacbiet
Yea, Tupac and Biggie both had emo stuff, but it was deep. Their emo stuff was discussing the Post-Traumitic Stress of growin up in the hood, all the people they've wronged, all the people that's wronged them, and seeing your best friends killed. The guilt of being a killer/theif... That's real. That's as deep as gangsta rap gets... I don't even consider that stuff emo.

Eminem on the other hand is talking about killing his wife, throwing up whenever he thinks of his x, and cursing out his mom (I forgot what it was... I haven't heard the song in like 8 years. He ties rope around his penis, and he jumps from a tree...
His emo shit is the garden variety of... that weird stuff.

naruhodo, that makes sense, Royce fits the mood of that song better than Jay did. as for the whole Pac and Biggie issue, Biggie sold crack as a teenager and started rapping when he was on probation. Ready to Die was an ode to his past life before the royalty checks when he had to slang to feed his newly born baby daughter. Afterwards he was a millionaire, living out his dreams. he was eating, no more sardines for dinner. Source: Queen Reigns Supreme. his A&R had to get in some dope boys around New York to come in and tell him stories for material for Life After Death. true story. iono where to begin with Pac. he wasn't a dealer, never killed nobody, wasn't even a good fighter. just a rebel without a cause and half his material contradicts the other half. Pac started out dancing for digital underground, EM had to go through MAD shit for his position, from battle rapper, to RAWKUS, THEN Dre picked him up thru jimmy lovine. I'm just saying Eminem lived through it and whatever criticisms people say about his records he has another one refuting their arguments against him.

You're right about that. He even reeled Jay-Z in with that...

It's already been proven that Eminem can spit. I'm just saying that even though he's lyrically gifted, the beats he has are very weak and because of that, I can't get into his songs as much as I do with other rappers. Now, they don't have to go hard as hell, but they can be simplistic, and yet catchy enough for you to want to listen to the rest of the song. ("Cleanin Out My Closet", "Stan", and "The Way I Am" are perfect examples of what I'm talking about.)

I did not know that. eek

So even though Jay-Z used a track from a different rapper's trash can, he still got killed in it. That's harsh. I lost some respect for Jay-Z now.

EDIT: Now that I look at this, it's funny how I try to mix slang with proper English. It's like I'm a noob coming out of a Hip-Hop college class. laugh

I still push Astronautalis -- everybody should check out his latest album, Pomegranate, and expect a collab album between him and P.O.S. (of Rhymesayers/Doomtree -- that whole shinding) sometime next year. (A sort of teaser is the secret track on Pomegranate, in fact.

Also, folks should look into Bleubird for some interesting stuff -- right now one of his EPs can be nabbed free if you follow enough links from his myspace.

Busdriver throws down some creative rhymes with a fast, fun-to-follow delivery. No dumb crap, either. Intelligent. Also, even though he says he's happy, totally bitter.

Finally, k-the-iconfused. Guy's a genius. Kind of like really abstract beat poetry delivered at lightning speeds -- LIGHTNING, I TELL YE -- over sick beats. Not for your every day person, but I can't get enough.

"Fuse atoms, gasping for oxygen
Unexplainable toxic fumes,
Consumed in my dna, my every day existence;
My eyes are more open now
Three dimensional scenery;
A liquid based polygon computerized entity;
Some of these get reduced to sentences mentioning calligraphy,
Trace pattern, disperse from you earthlings
And make my way back to Saturn,
Pathetic ingrate brain flooded, isotope,
The lost shallows just too dope.
Kollidoscope." k-the-iconfused -- Kollidoscope
