Instrumental?
Venetian Snares does a lot of incredible work on his album, My Downfall (Original Soundtrack). From the grand sounds of Room 379 to the raw energy in Integraation, or the saga of sorrow in the I'm Sorry I Failed You/Picturesque Pit/If I Could Say I Love You/Mentioning It movement, every track isolates some emotion, generally from the darker end of the spectrum, and describes it in music.

Kaki King, what of her work I've heard, has put together some very solid tracks.

I'll stop before I get into video game soundtracks--Oh! Banjo Kazooie, Oh! Majesty.

Last but not least, Eddie Hazel's epic guitar solo that is Maggot Brain. Technically not an instrumental because there is a thirty-or-so second spoken word track at the beginning of the song, but I'd say it counts. Or maybe it doesn't. The way he makes his guitar cry, I'd swear it's singing at me.

I reccomend Jesse Cook, he plays the spanish guitar (ah, just found out that hes actually a Nuevo Flamenco guitarist).

Also, although there are lyrics in a sense, its all medieval like such, and thats The Soil Bleeds Black, they're neo-medieval music.

The Gankutsuou OST has some really good ones aswell (one of which is fantastic).

Oh God no, not Jesse Cook! Yes, he has good guitar music, I will admit that much though.

Sadly for me, my father was obsessed with him for a while. I am now no longer able to listen to his music without intense psychological pain from hearing it faaaaaaaaaaaaar too many times.

The Heart Asks Pleasure First by Michael Nyman, from the soundtrack of the movie The Piano. The keys are actually moving to the right notes, which I find amusing. Plus it's amazingly fun to play.

And pretty much the entire Pride & Prejudice Soundtrack from the new version... especially Liz on Top of the World, Darcy's Letter, and Dawn.

I just recently watched the movie august rush and it has some really pretty instrumental music. the movie was super cheesy, but the song Bari Improv with the hitting the guitar is really cool, as well as the song they play at the very end, August's Rhapsody. Also, the background music from the first narnia movie is nice to listen to too. my favorite is The Battle.
