Not only is the amount of good TV anime nearly unheard of for 1 cour but the amount of almost good shows is high too. Namely: Blood Blockade Battlefront, Gintama, Hoozuki no Reitetsu, Land of the Lustrous and The Ancient Magus' Bride. A very strong finish to an alright year!
3-gatsu no Lion The season´s best was saved for last and newcomers can´t start here. The ending animation is a masterpiece btw. 9/10
Garo: Vanishing Line I still remember the first Garo anime. It started promising enough and then gradually fell off a cliff. Let´s hope for a different outcome here. The show looks and sound nice and the US setting is kinda cool but there comes our first problem. The black couple in ep. 2 and the useless seeming girl sidekick are the most Japanese Americans i have ever seen. Hups? The back and white morality sucks too but sniper Batman is fun. More of him. 7/10
Inuyashiki sure looks nice due to Madhouse 2.0 animating it. This is also a direct adaptation, which leads to a too slow first half thanks to the slow pacing. I though don´t quite care as the story lives of it being unique in at least the anime field. The fun won´t last though, as the manga peaks in act 1. 8/10 for now and a 7/10 overall, unless this goes off scrip.
Juuni Taisen I am very glad that a LN adaptation worked out for once first of all. The author´s Katanagatari and S01 of Monogatari were fun enough, so i am not surprised by the anime´s quality. The real surprise are the cinematic production values. How was this financed!?! The animation could be sustained though due to the 12 ep. limit and the fact that the source is just 1 book. The anime is lastly more forthcoming with details about the dead men walking, as Boar´s backstory was greatly expanded. At least when compared to the manga adaptation. 8/10
Kino no Tabi - the Beautiful World - the Animated Series can be treated as a 2nd season for the last the adaptation. Just with brighter colors and more lankly designs. Or not, due to ep.2 already being a swifter "remake". The same problems are also again present. Kino is too bland a character as she borderline acts like a (video game) avatar. She may be a remorseless serial killer, yet this is a show where no one cares about anything and tragedies can´t work like that. Especially as nearly all stories rely on that ONE twist, which makes them all to similar and formulaic to surprise. 7/10
Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau I like the subdued colors scheme for the adaptation and this is more or less what Kino should be characterization and format wise. People don´t shrug off a genocide here. The story will soon become darker and i still ask myself why the manga primarily targets teen girls. 8/10
Osomatsu-san 2 Fame and money are indeed scary but who knew that it can lead to becoming a cannibal. The 2nd ep. was something else too. 8,5/10
Ballroom e Youkoso dances on while the manga can´t quite exit its 1 year hiatus.
Also on my plate are: DuckTales, Justice League Action, Star Wars Rebels, Teen Titans Go, The Simpsons (urgh) and Voltron: Legendary Defender.
Batman vs. Two-Face lastly featured Adam West´s final performance and William Shatner´s first good one in 3 decades.
