I am just intressted in how well the genres truely represent the people who read them. So do Boys reall prefer Shonen and do Girls really prefer shoujo, Men seinen and Women josei. So just say yes or no.

For me it fits, i prefer seinen and am 23 male

I'm female 18y and reading shonen and shoujo and a hell of other stuff........I don't think you can stick people in different boxes that easy, 'cause the different personalitys let much space for many interest groups.

I would rather ask if shy persons reading shonen, because they see what they can't do, or lonly person reading lovestory, because they are lonely.

Basically fits for me as well, I prefer reading Shounen/Seinen over Shoujo/Josei. (Ofc. there are some exceptions...)

male/20~

I read a variety of genres, but mainly Shounen and Seinen and comedy if you consider it a genre. Sometimes I read shoujo when I want a change of pace. Age: 18

I read just about anything, but it takes a pretty good shoujo to rope me in because the usual shoujo art doesn't really appeal to me, but if the story is good then I'll overlook the art biggrin

My highlights are ecchi and seinen. I think I am pretty well defined by the genres. I don't read that many josei or shoujo unless they are highly recommended.

I also have the my yaoi reflector on.

19yr old male.

Daed, you can mentally scar some people with that link. Things like that make me question the sanity of some users. It is just wrong and disturbing, but man it cracks me up.

I'd like to add to this that Shounen is a pretty broadly aimed category. Although its primarily directed at younger males, a lot of it is kind of meant to be openly appealing to both boys and girls.

And even if you read random things written for other demographics, I really think people should answer yes if their favorite series are from their demographics.

But really, I think the results of this may be a bit scewed. Only because of the cultural differences in japan and other countries. I don't think that the average female in the American/Foreign anime/manga community isn't necessarily representative of the average non-otaku japanese female. It just seems to me, older american males are more likely to be reading (primarily) shounen than japanese males, and other such anomolies.

I put yes~

No (21 female). I read everything, although I stir more toward josei/seinen since I prefer more complicated, less idealistic plotlines, but that’s been the case since forever therefore I don’t think that age played any role in that. My main focus is the plot and the art, so as long as I find the story interesting and the art at least passable I’ll read it.

On lighter note: I also read both yaoi and hentai, although I came to conclusion that finding an intelligent plot in yaoi is much easier than in hentai. Men are easy to satisfy? <_<

I'm a a guy, I consider myself old enough to enter the Seinen box, and I have to say that most my readings lately have turned out to be Seinen. I don't do it on purpose, it's what is getting me hooked naturally. Although I still read a lot of shonen, and I have a couple of Shoujo I'm reading, and a couple other I read. (Don't remember ever encountering a Josei series - Might actually be intersting if anyone has a good one to suggest)
So it probably fits mostly... but we should be careful of the results. My real problem with shoujo is:
the romance... I don't really read shonen romance either... So my problem is certainly not with shoujo but it is with the romance.

@Shono, I'm a lonely girlfriend-less guy and totally dislike romance in a story. SO your theory is at least not right on this point.

Why do you think people actually read hentai? not for the plot I'm sure...
And I'm pretty sure no one is reading yaoi for the plot either...
And if you really want to compare, don't compare hentai to yaoi, compare yaoi/yuri...
