Adding to Crenshinibon characteristics basis, I'll add some solid facts and a few suspicions.
Shirley was shot no stabbed, wound was clean and there was no trail of blood afront of her.
Once again if she was shot it would have to be at point blank range or done by someone with amazing markmanship.
Although I DO suspect Rolo, my belief is that Orange-kun setup that plot and kept good on his word and freed Villeta long enough to allow her a short period on the field in which she used to get her revenge on Shirley for the many evil things that was done to her.
Like shooting her and leaving her for dead, and making her wear that revealing skimpy mini bikini.
If anyone has the highest motive to kill her it would definitely be Villeta.

. Not that that will happen....I don't think he's faking, but I do suspect he's being manipulated by the Emperor/VV. They know of his past and allegiances so why would they give him that power and send him in there like that...
I also wondered about his geass canceling power. Does it reset everything and allow geass to be used again on people that he de-geassed or does it just remove the effects, but still leaves them un geassable?
My guess is that the Emperor determined his hatred for the person who "killed" Cornellia (sp?) would be stronger than his will to protect Marianne's child. In fact, we don't even know if the Emperor paid attention to whom was assigned to guard Marianne, since noone else seemed to know up until this point.
On another note, I agree wholeheartedly with statements that Jeremiah is the most overpowered combat wise. He's like the Suzaku of this season (seeing as how any battle Suzaku participated in the first season happened to be a defeat for Lelouche.) I definitely expect his weight on Lelouche's side to end up pushing the conflict in his favor as we go towards the climax. Which brings up another point - Will it keep going on to a season 3, or end this season? Anyone seen anything regarding that note?

Hmmm... I like your suspicion of Villeta... The only way that could have happened though is with a sniper rifle of some sort. However, I don't see Villeta being the type to kill a girl who's been her student (and had her memories altered) for months. We've already seen that Villeta is relatively good at heart (from her time with Ogi(sp?)) but is too loyal to the Emperor for her own good. I think if she wanted revenge on anyone, or to kill anyone like that... She would have done so on Lelouche - not Shirley. Noone else besides Rolo really has the motivation to kill Shirley -instead- of Lelouche.

Viletta's appearance wouldn't cause Rollo to activate his Geass. It's an interesting theory, but that's a pretty glaring hole. Unless you can think of any remotely logical reason that Rollo would activate his Geass for a purpose other than to defend Shirley (which, since it wasn't Jeremiah, and the Geass would be pointless to use against VV in the first place, clearly wasn't the reason), Rollo's the killer.
Plus, Viletta seems to actually have a thing for Ougi now, and she wouldn't have called him in the first place if she was planning to betray Lelouch by killing Shirley. It seems like she has come to regard the academy as her home and think that she has a duty to protect her students. unless I'm mistaken, isn't that why she sent Jeremiah to Ikebukuro in the first place?
