Anyone else reading the TokyoPop releases (their title: GTO The Early Years) and notice the repeated pages in volume 6??

I've contacted the place I bought vol. 6 from and they say they've talked to TokyoPop and "there's no misprint, it's just a flashback". Unfortunately for them, I *know* that's not true, thanks to "lurking" on irc and grabbing the raws. roll eyes

Just curious whether anyone else has found this, tried to get a corrected copy, etc. 'cause right now I'm irritated as hell with TokyoPop. laugh

I've stopped buying TokyoPop's version after the 5th volume.

It's just so overly bad and everything re-written.

"Hey, guys, I have a great idea! Let's screw all of the lines up, use soft, crappy language that not even elementary school kids use and put an 18+ tag on! The beginning of Dumb butt is now!"

Good thing I get to read the French version that doesn't fuck around.

I was seriously going to buy the Tokyopop version because this is one of my favorite mangas. I've been looking around to buy the volumes at a discount price online. But just how bad is the dialogue? I really hope its not too childish as I would like to have a hard copy on my bookshelves, rather than only on my hard drive...
Maybe I should go to a comic book store and try to find a volume to browse through before I spend my money on it...

They're often/usually shrink wrapped in stores, so you may not be able to find one to look through. Honestly, I don't think the dialog is *THAT* bad, and to me it's worth buying (discounted, because that's the only way I buy books) to have the real books rather than scanlations. The duplicated page thing is really irritating, though. dead

How many times in a volume do they have "flashbacks"

The only duplicated pages I've noticed - and if there were others, I *think* I would have noticed but can't guarantee it - are two instances in volume 6.

And they honestly said "we didnt fuck up, its a flashback"? Cause seriously, if you fuck up like that, dont make up shit. Thats stupid. Its one of the reasons tokyopop sucks.

Well. It's a long distance call to TokyoPop, so I haven't talked to them directly (what can I say, I'd rather spend my money on manga...).

When I talked to the folks at www.therightstuf.com (which is where I bought the manga from, and also where TokyoPop's toll free customer service number redirects to) they said that TP told *them* that there was no problem, no misprint, it was just a flashback. They were pretty much at a loss when I told them that I KNEW that wasn't the case as I'd seen the original Japanese version. roll eyes

They also suggested it might be censored (oh sorry, I believe "altered due to content" was the phrase they used) but given some of the stuff that hasn't been censored and the content of the replaced pages, I don't think that's it (and I said so).

So, pretty much Tokyopop screwed over the consumer yet again. Bah, Bastards in my opinion. They be only a warranting their own death sooner if they be keeping this up...

But yea. That saves me some trouble, cause i was going to buy them (I already have 1-3, but i havent read them yet... i mean, ive read the scans, just not.. Ya know) Anywhoo...

Well, if anyone wants a copy of volume 6, I've got a spare~

In trying to get me one without a misprint, before they decided "it's not a misprint", they ended up sending me two, and not charging me for either. laugh

This is the manga the mangaka of GTO wrote before he started GTO.
GTO is a sequel of Shounan Jun'ai Gumi.

And yes Onizuka Eikichi is one of the main characters (although there is other main characters too). Read it, imo its better than GTO.

There's also Bad Company, which is a prequel to Shounan Jun'ai Gumi (though it may have been written later, not sure about that).
