-Iono the Fanatics, (as some1 already mentioned, this is a must read, its 2 volumes)-
-Strawberry Panic (watch the anime which is 24 episodes, and read the light novels which is 3 books, 2 are currently out in the US. the manga is unfinished and based off the light novels)
-Strawberry Shake (1 volume, and some more chapters r available and translated)
-Shoujo Sect (2 volumes long, 1st volume is completely translated)
-Kashimashi (5 volumes long, its a gender bender, but yuri overall)
-First Love Sisters (3 volumes, the 1st is out in the US)
-The Last Uniform (3 volumes i think, the first 2 r out in the US)
-Aqua (2 volumes, not really yuri but its kinda close lol)
-Aria (14+ volumes, sequel to aqua, once again its not yuri but the theme is almost there as much as maria-sama ga miteru)

HEN - although it's not the best rated series and the yuri love is one sided, i found it an amusing read.

Oniisama e is really emotionally charged in both the anime and manga. It's a school story, but definitely one of the darker and better ones. It's also a yuri classic, one of the first to be created. The anime can be found on the internet and the manga at Lililicious scanlations.

Revolutionary Girl Utena is more complex as an anime than a manga, but it was voted the best Yuri anime on the Yuricon website. It's one of the strangest anime I've ever seen, yet it's also one of the best. If you read Lemony Snicket, let's just say that it's A Series of Unfortunate Events dropped into a vat of LSD, all the dark weirdness of the world of the Baudelaire orphans combined with ground-breaking themes set in a fantastical school with swordfights. Utena's renowned for turning fairytale archetypes right on top of their heads, and the complexity of all the character relationships, gay or straight, is simply breath-taking.

Maria-sama ga miteru is pure shojo, Class-S, where there's no underlying plot. It's about a group of Catholic schoolgirls managing their relationships with each other. It's light, soft reading for anyone who's sick of dysfunctional relationships and just wants to read about a "garden for maidens" where girls can be loving and happy. It began as a novel series, and some translated chapters can be found online.

Hayate X Blade's coming out in stores in November. And two chapters of it are currently scanlated for online reading. It's a comedy series about a sword-fighting school where girls pair up and duel for money and power. It's less fantastical and deeper than Utena, but many of the swordfighters and strong and cool and the stories are just plain hilarious.

Simoun works better as an anime, and has gender-bender, sci-fi aspects. It's set in a world where the most high-tech form of technology are aircrafts called Simoun which can only be activated when its pilots kiss each other. biggrin On this planet, everyone is born female. When they're 17, they go to an enchanted spring to choose whether to become male or stay female, but only those who haven't chosen their gender can pilot Simoun. There's international conflicts and religious vs. secular debates, and Simoun is the most overt yuri anime on this list.

Rose of Versailles has some yuri as a secondary plot, but when it's main character is a girl trained to be a soldier who acts as Marie Antoinette's favorite bodyguard, the story is too good to resist. This manga handles gender issues better than anything else I've ever read, the plot is fast-paced, and the character relationships are to cry for. It's my favorite manga of all time. If nothing else, at least read this. cool

Have not read, but it goes on my wishlist.

That's not yuri, it's pure porn. Shoujo Sect should be categorized as hentai definitively, because the sex acts are the focal point of the entire manga.

Seconded!

The other posts seemed to have covered all the best Yuri series I'm aware of.
