It may or may not have already been said, but has anyone noticed the similarities between Nurarihyon and Kekkaishi?? Youkai roaming the land, a defender who transforms in the night, a school setting, childhood love interest, background society of supernaturals (the Urakai and the youkai council), crusty old grandfather figure. I mean, couldn't the mangaka think of something a tad more original. Then again, I'll be a hypocrite and say I do enjoy Nurari, but it just fits into the type of genre I like so...

If Nurarihyon incorporates romance, and Nura gets controls of his transformation, then I can definitely see it being better than Kekkaishi. However now being only 21 chapters long, there hasn't been much room for character/relationship development, so it's very inferior to Kekkaishi.

So basically right now Kekkaishi mainly because it's at 190 chapters and by now has had a large amount of character development, but depending on how complex/simple they become one could become better than the other.

Kekkaishi, by a large amount. Nura is definitely not bad, however it has too much drama. I like Kekkaishi with its humor and storyline more. *sorry for updating the dead-ish post*

I have to say for now, i think Kekkaishi is better becuz it has been around for quite sometimes which allow a better plot and characters development. It's too early to makes comparison for Nurarihyon cuz there's just 22 chap out so for now i shall reserved my judgement on that smile .

Just so you know, i get the same feeling as Kekkaishi in the manga early chpaters when i read Nurarihyon. So i'm hoping that it'll get better through times cuz i almost dropped Kekkaishi from my reading list. Thank god i didn't dropped it cuz it's getting more and more interesting cool .

I haven't read nurarihyon, but I'd say it probably wins because Kekkaishi is pretty bland and unimpressive.

I definitely prefer kekkaishi, i find it has more character development and i can't seem to get interested in nurari no matter how hard i try.
might be the style of art though, i've noticed that kind of thing has a major influence over whether i like a manga or not bigrazz

I agree that it's a hard competition, because Nurarihyon is pretty recent and Kekkaishi is ways ahead. So far Kekkaishi is really interesting and the characters have good developement. With nurarihyon it still has the fault of adding too many characters at first, instead of slowly introducing and devolping the old, which Kekkaishi does just fine, and in that case is way ahead in some thing like Naruto or something. Although nurarihyon hasn't been around to say something concrete, the flow in kekkaishi is topnotch.

And about similarities... well... there a gazillions of manga and shounen manga's of the japanese mytholigy genre tend to happen to look alike no matter what. I could compare something like Ushio&Tora or whatever with it, too...so let's not start a "this is kinda familiar/I've read that in xxx" discussion. With this many manga it's kinda impossible, even with the intention of NOT creating something similiar XD"

But all in all I say Kekkaishi is 'still' better, 'yet'. Let's see how Nurari turns out. Some manga's tend to get better later in art and story... and some do not. It's not like Kami no Mizo Shiru Sekai were it is awesome from the start XD"
