Problem is that when a mangaka can sell just drawing boobs and panties rarely he also think of a story to put in there. So statistically there are not many good harem, at least imho.

Well, every genre can be awesome when done right, Harem included.

I want to read a good harem, with girls that actually have personalities and aren't just fine with other women clinging to the one they love. roll

...

So you would read a yaoi with a good story?

I never said that. I said every genre can be awesome when done right. So, I'm sure there are quite a few intricate/psychological Yaoi/Shounen-ai that deserve some praise.

That being said, I don't read that stuff. .___.

@drunkguy: you mean "harem in H-games" right? since most hentai anime are just plain sucks, weak plot, weak story, just a loud moaning of the girls.

I feel like harem in h-games mostly better normal anime.

for example Utawareru Mono if you have watched it.

The thing is, amongst all the crap and generic harems I have come across some great original ones (e.g. IO). However they just tend to be pushed aside and go unnoticed by the messes, who seem to favor stuff like To-Love-Ru (-_-)

I typically dislike Harems.

For me a manga either has an unique, compelling or female lead to be interesting and harems usually don't.

Therefore I only like harems that have some bad-ass harem lead who deserves his own harem, or all-female harems. Unfortunately, both those things seem to be rare.

Iono-Sama Fanatics is the best example of an all female yuri harem I could give.

I'm not sure I've ever even read something like the other situation though.I don't know if it's been done before (It could have been, but I typically stay away from the harem genre entirely so wouldn't know). That would be interesting, a harem lead who actually deserves it.

never heard about that one, because I never read yuri >.>

anyway I feel like most harem manga are boring. Not only harem but most shounen, romance, school life thing.

Which is why I made the stipulation in the OP of 'when it's done well'.

But whatever, it is what it is.

Actually I meant hentai manga but H-games pretty much follow that observation just as well. As for hentai anime, generally they just don't last long enough to make a decent story so yeah, they typically are pretty weak. In a sense you see that in manga but there's just so much more H manga that good examples pop up from time to time. Of course my definition of harem is a bit loose. (3+ people going after one person)

I don't think most harem manga artists draw harem manga with serious intention. What i'm trying to say is that they tend to stretch things way out of line sometimes purely for fun. It's hard, no, wait, i've rarely found harem manga that are way too serious with the exception of School Days and maybe Mai Otome.

So with that in mind, you get your normal dose of harem manga which aren't serious and meant purely for fun readings. Well at least that's how i view things, throw away the concept of reality and seriousness when you read harem manga and you'll end up enjoying things more

I have to agree on this one though the fact remains that most harem manga aren't meant for serious readings and last but not least - I Love Harem Manga - cool

The way you were going on about it I thought you were about to mention the best Harem currently available
(Unbalance x Unbalance).

I personally don't like the way School Days is being laid out as one of the best harems because it certainly isn't. Sure it had an interesting take on romance & betrayal but it was far removed from reality and more geared towards drama & shocking developments. ^_^

How is School Days not realistic? Come on, now. Love can will and has caused such occurrences to happen IRL. My ass, far removed from reality.
