So, some people think this'll cause the end of the world.
What I understand of it, it generates like mini-black holes as a byproduct, and the sceptics are saying they'll drift or something towards the center of the world, and then mass together and swallow us all whole.
I'm not completely sure of this though,
maybe someone else can give a better explanation.
So, yeah, ... the world is supposed to end today.
Here's a pic of it~
And here's an actual live-feed of the Large Hadron Collider.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research has warranted the safety of the LHC.
And here's some pic of the beam status of the LHC.
I'm putting links as I find them.

well it's not exactly like that but you are pretty close for a better explanation of what they mean go here
http://www.cracked.com/article_16583_5-scientific-experiments- most-likely-end-world.html
this will explain the top five things most likely to end the world, and on a side note the LHC has 3 of the top five

the "funniest" thing of all is that when they asked the professors on how much a probability was that a mini black hole could be born and swallow up Earth in like 4 years (one of the possible outcomes, really ^^), the scientist replied "scarce". SCARCE? WTF!!!!
One of our comedians (italy here), said: "well its the scientific-like response as to say "we dont know what the f*ck we are doing""
To tell the truth, i am quite knowledgeable in scientific matters, so that answer "scarce probability" sounds to me like a quite serious threatening possibility. Not to lose the sleep but...well it doesnt sound comforting, really.

Oh, thanks. Too much D&D.

Yeah, but that article isn't really reliable, isn't it?
Since I read some other articles, and they all seem satirical.
Though I'm sure there's some truth in it.
@Elairz: I knew someone would mention it.
They probably took the name from this machine, me thinks.
Video of first beam.

bout the black holes...i've read Stephen Hawking said there was 1% chance of this experiment creating one...but they would be small and disappear instantly...
but LHC started...and we're still here...

I wonder what's at the other end of the black hole we are all going to get sucked into. Hopefully we wont just be stretching out into tiny particles... because that is boring.
I want there to be like, dinosaurs or something.

This is one huge BS.... as always. The world was supposed to end in so many cases. In the last 8 years there have been a minimum of two cases when the world had to end.
And if it really will end I will just support it. No suffering, no hate, no dumb religous fanatatics just pure science in the name of mankind (no cynism here folks), that will destroy us all..... mhm.
No really I trust duds who managed to convince the gov. that it is worth spending 5 billion bucks to smash ivisible stuff together. Plus Hwakings made a bet that they won't discuver the "god particules", not that they will blow us up.

Are people still talking about this? Really?
I mean... what's the point of worrying about something you have absolutely no control over. People already tried to stop it's activation and they failed. If the world comes to an end, nothing we can do about it.

yep...its gonna take some time for proton beams in both direction to gain speed (334 000 km/s) before the collision...

Like the saying. "You don't have to worry about the world ending today. It's already tomorrow in Austrailia"
