Let me be a bit specific here. Would you pick up or stay clear from a manga when you see it or are recommend to it?

I must admit, there are many in my wish list lately that I haven't even read the description just looks cool and have a very vague idea of it from a topic I got it from. Not so recently, so many times I will look at a manga cover and instantly toss it. I can be a bit picky when it comes to manga art.

i read the descriptions, but if it looks bad to the point that it catches my attention, i judge it by that.

I just read it and then decide, the covers can be quite misleading sometimes.

I read descriptions. If it does sound interesting at the time i don't read it. I might come back and read the description again and then read it. bigrazz

I sometimes are attracted to the manga because of the cover, but I always read the description before buying it. I also sometimes skim through the pages to see if it really is interesting.... But most of the time I just buy manga that I already read in the internet or are from my top 5 favorite mangakas. I always love the works from my top 5 favorite mangakas. <3

Hmmm...Yeah I do. There's way too much manga to take your time to look through every single one. And a lot of times, my judgements of the manga are right so..yes. When I finish enough manga I go back and carefully read the descriptions to see if I want to try it or not.

I've got two answers:

I use the cover to vet yaoi. Most of the discriptions are so generic, and there are some art styles that I can't tolerate, so a cover is a great way to decide if I should even bother with the descriptions.

Otherwise, I use covers to decide borderline mangas: the ones where the description is bleh and I'm basically just picking it up for pretty pictures.

I usually read the descriptions first.
Though the cover does play a huge part in me deciding if I should read it or not. embarrassed
It's a bad habit.
But I still do it anyway.

I would rarely judge by the cover on MU's manga pages as the description/reviews are better, I would the odd time when I am glancing though mangas on OM/MF as the picture is bigger and gives a better idea of the style of art...

Since the art is a big factor in my choosing process, I do tend to judge by the cover. But I've been surprised, some manga with really good covers just have horrible art, and some with horrible covers have really good art on the inside.

So I've made myself get into the habit of checking one out if the description is interesting/has a high rating.

I know I've seen a thread like this before, I just can't find it...so just keep it alive until it can be found...

And to be relevant to the topic, I look at the genres before anything else then place most of my judging from the comments then summary, the manga cover usually comes last.

To tell the truth, when i first started reading manga, i had the tendancies to judge by cover instead of reading the descriptions. But now i little wiser, i read the descriptions, see what other ppl think about who like the same genres and stuff and even do a little research when the time calls for it.

Perhaps it was the Art vs. Plot thread?

Ya know, there's a good reason why they made up the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" and that is, well, to not judge a book by it's cover duh... i mean, there's like a gazzillion manga out there with good story but poor cover. But then again, to read a discription you'll always look for the cover which caught ur attention(good art or eye catching) bigrazz
