I was thinking about this when I was rereading One Piece and I wanted to know what people think One Piece really is.

For me, I think that One Piece is going to be just a one piece swimsuit. Think about it. Oda is known for thinking outside of the box with jokes and having them come out of nowhere (Like recently, having Duval look just like Sanji's wanted poster). And since Luffy is in it for the adventure and the thrill, I think that Oda would have something like that to cement his message that in the end, a true adventure is about having true nakama with you and that having fun on the way it is all that matters. And probably because of the whole Japanese male fascination of one piece swimsuits biggrin

So what do you all think One Piece truly is?

Definitely some moral message, but I think a swimsuit is a little far fetched.

also could be a play on words, I don't know if this would translate but piece and peace sound the same right?

Perhaps, but one piece is intentionally enigmatic, so its safe to assume we are supposed to wonder.

That wouldn't make much sense, since One Piece was an adopted name from a quote by the last pirate king. It isn't an official name, just treated like one.

My guess one piece is a bunch of treasure. Of which there is a portal to another dimension. One with flying ships and in its pirate days. Giving the Straw Hat crew a brand new adventure called One Piece Z.

One piece of eight? lol

I think its a metaphor for being the pirate king. Once you've achieved one piece, you are the king. Whether or not it is something tactile and real... I don't have any idea.

Though i would like to say that it's also a gateway that will lead them into One Piece Z, throughout the series we see what different forms someones treasure can be. When the crew get there, i think that they'll find not only vast amounts of treasure, but something simple and out of place, which will Gol D.'s real treasure.

then, Luffy in turn will also leave his Straw Hat behind leaving his own piece and legacy on the "final island", which, in my opinion, is the only way the series should end.

haha, but i guess i'm somewhat of a romantic.

i believe it's the world in itself actually. Roger is said to have traveled all over it and seen pretty much everything there is to be seen in his travels and lived freely. i think it's more along the lines of what Luffy was referring to when he was talking with Rayleigh, absolute freedom that comes with being the Pirate King.

One Piece will probably be a BIG pile of gold and treasure that the crew will initially go crazy when they first see it. Then after looking through the pile they'll either find a message from Roger, were he will say that the true treasure that stayed with him till the day that he died is the adventure and the relationships with his nakama and people that he met along the way, or a time capsule (of sorts) with personal mementos of Roger and his crew (pictures, letters etc).

Then the Straw Hats will take a small piece of the pile and leave their own message/time capsule for the next daring adventurers to find.
