Doc, you fail laugh. Director is Masamitsu Hidaka. Taniguchi Goro did Geass.

Hidaka's only directing experience comes from pokemon.... he did the storyboard for a couple gundam series and zegapain though.

Oh, and it seems I switched his name or something.
Taniguchi is the Creative Producer.

Yes, the rest is correct.

For clarification's sake, Taniguchi's only experience as creative producer comes from Mai-hime.

Basically I'm just saying that even if it is Taniguchi, I'm not impressed with the credentials. Especially since it's GONZO...

Hmm, his name gets mentioned in the trailer though at 0:39~

And yeah, even if he was the director, it's Gonzo... laugh

No no, he is the creative producer, it's just that Mai-hime is his only previous experience, which doesn't impress me laugh.

Looks like some strange mecha with good music to me...
And too much 3D...

Well, I'm not going to watch it.
(Being Gonzo and all.)

Just thought to mention it, since I like the manga.

Maybe I've just been watching the right shows from them and avoiding the crap, but I've always had an overall favorable opinion of Gonzo. They've put out some quality shows over the years.

I for one am excited about this new anime and I have zero exposure to the manga, the story doesn't even seem that interesting to me. I'm interested because I've enjoyed many Gonzo works and because i have nothing but respect for Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass being my favorite anime and Mai-HiME being in the top five).

Of course I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if the anime fails to grab me entirely. It has a lot of tough competition this season.

In GONZO's case it's a matter of what you get exposed to than anything else. They do have some gems- Last Exile, Bokurano, Gankutsuou, etc., but the vast majority of their stuff is more along the quality level of Dragonaut, Blassreiter, or Rosario+Vampire's anime adaptation. It matters what you're exposed to and actually realize is by them, for sure.

Taniguchi's great, but his role isn't all that huge content-wise, he's mostly responsible for the budget and timing this time (naturally, he will have some influence, but that lays much more in the hands of the director and storyboard writer than anyone else).

Anyway, I saw the first episode. About what I expected (not bad, but certainly nothing very good), the character designs were a little bit disappointing though- anyone else feel like the kids had heads that were way too big? Or is that just my imagination? Also not a big fan of entirely CG mechs. That's just my take though.

It's interesting, but I've seen none of the shows you mentioned, the good or the bad (perhaps, I'm missing out...). When I think of GONZO, I think almost immediately of Kiddy Grade, one of my favorite series of all time. I've also enjoyed immensely from GONZO, Vandread, the first season of Kaleido Star, Samurai 7, and Hellsing (though the non-GONZO ova series is far superior). And even though they were admittedly flawed to various extents, I got a fair level of enjoyment out of series like Full Metal Panic!, Bakuretsu Tenshi, Trinity Blood, Romeo X Juliet, and their most recent offering, Strike Witches. I can't really think of anything I saw from them I didn't like save the Samurai Girl:Real Bout High School anime and Saikano, which was far too depressing.

And yeah, I realize that Taniguchi doesn't have the most important job this time. Still, after Geass, just his name being attached to the project is a draw to me for some reason.

Ever since Vandread, I've always wondered about GONZO and those CG mechs. It's just never looked good to me. I don't know why they continue to use that technique. I guess someone must like it...

Anyway, I suppose I'll just have to make my own judgment as to whether it's worth following once I watch the first episode this weekend.
