Couscous, rice, and other grains.

Just go to your local health foods store (I know the concept of a health foods store sounds pricey, but it depends on what you buy) and head to the bulk bins. Get a butt-load of cheap grain of your choice, preferably less than $2 per pound. Go home and cook according to google.

Grains & noodles are good, & some regular grocery stores have cheap bulk bins too. Where I live, WinCo's the cheapest, but I don't think it's a national chain...

(this may not be of needed anymore for the OP, but still something to look at if your broke)

Rice.
Buy a huge bag of rice. ( About 20$, but it'll last you a few months. Depending on how many people are eating)

Things to go with rice for meals.
- Eggs. (they tend to be cheapish)
- Black beans (or whatever can beans you like) (Actually I believe buying a bag of beans is cheaper, more work, but cheaper)
- Canned Tuna
- Pretty much anything canned is cheap and can go with rice.
Oh a favorite of mine Rice with lime juice.
(Honestly I remember just eating rice, and black beans for dinner. If I was lucky I got some eggs too ....)

(Also when buying canned food, try buying in bulk, like a huge pack. You get more for your money. It seems like it's spending a lot, but it's the over time thing that makes you save money. Oh don't forget coupons.)

Of course there's the already mentioned instant ramen.
Some store sale meat that's about to expire really cheap, if you want more protein.

Rice and some canned goods, easy to prepare and cheap, but be sure to add atleast some veggies to make it a proper meal..
If you really need the energy, eat more rice..

Not exactly no money, but when you're a little skint...

Rice with:
- (raw) egg and a dash of soy sauce
- salmon trimmings
- nori, sesame seeds and spam
- dry shredded pork (but this works better with congee)
- (tomato) soup
- mabo tofu (sometimes without the pork)
- steamed egg

I know people also eat rice with lard and soy sauce. Yet to try it.

Also eat:
- canned tuna with pasta
- soup (if I've got greater cravings, add a piece of bread or frankfurter)
- baguette with melted cheese and sugar
- boiled potatoes (wrapped in nori)
- frozen banana (with nutella or chocolate syrup)
- vermicelli (with pad thai sauce, chilli oil, salad dressing or even just a squeeze of lime)

Potatoes are great, they are cheap (at least where I'm from) and you can make many different things with them, like potato pancakes, dumplings, fries and many other things. When I have little money I often make a poor version of french toast - just dip slices of stale (but not moldy) bread in slightly beaten egg with some salt and pepper, and fry them. Serve with some ketchup.

Beans on toast. Classic impoverished student staple.

A loaf of bread = £1
Tin of beans = 45p

A meal for £1.45!

Also, you can just cut down on meals. Instead of 3 meals a day, have 2 large meals, a brunch at around 11am and an evening meal at around 7 or 8. That's what I do.

Ohh, I tried this before, but instead of ketchup, I had sugar,, it tastes good...

Noodles, porridge, eggs, toast, bread, cereal.

Sometimes I just grab a slice of bread and stuff it in my mouth and that's me for a couple hours

hmm... i think Astro Fighter Sunred/Tentai Senshii Sunred (the anime the manga is not updating regularly if my memory serves me right) could help with that problem. Although the cooking segment is intended for people who are lazy to cook proper meals. They teach you how to cook food that are easy to make if you actually know how to manage the stove or microwave. some of the food they cook are oyako katsudon w/ the local chicken breast fillet in the supermarket, stew with leftover chicken from KFC, curry with whatever's in the fridge, etc.

The anime is somewhat unheard of but is also entertaining if you get over the fact that hes a power ranger. It has 2 seasons with 26 episodes each with every episode 13 min long. The story is about a... ahem...

"Astro Fighter Sunred. The magnificent story of the conflict good and evil which takes place in the city of Kawasaki." - Narrator of Astro Fighter Sunred anime.

And yeah that's about it.

I'm just gonna drop the name Jack Monroe in here. She's like a food beacon of hope for poor, poor-ish and currently-struggling financially people ever since she gained a profile in the British press for her recipes for ultra-affordable meals, which she created after she left her job and decided to share her story and experiences being a single mother who was forced through circumstances to find cheap ways to feed herself and her son with the whole world.

Check out some of her recipes, they are created to encourage people on a tight budget to eat healthily(mostly).

Porridge is very satisfying and cheap! As a broke college student, I live on a food budget. A lot of times I just make some porridge and eat it with some canned fish or eel. Delicious and filling!

I also like to make spam musubi's! All you need is seaweed, spam, and rice. If you have them laying around, rice vinegar and rice seasoning too!

i usually eat one bowl of rice with scrambled eggs, 1 tbsp of soy sauce over rice, and mozzarella cheese sprinkled on top! Sometimes I eat half a sausage with that too. :\

We always have rice. I like to eat it with meat or beans though, but when there is no money for that I make some coconut rice and fry some eggs (which we always seem to have as well). :3
