Is fairly easy

Show them a manga, and if they like it, then introduce them to the whole thing, they don't need to know they are reading a comic (there is a lot of baggage with that word) "Nerd and whatnot"

They are reading manga and they don't know it's a comic confused What do they think it is? A sausage?

Then again if it can be a mango...

I have never talked to anyone that stupid who doesn't know what anime/manga is. I have converted some people to it though. Best not to say anything at school though, or someone might label me weeaboo .

some people dislike manga/comics, just because they are "nerd" related that is why I say is a novel and ask them if they would like to read it

I don't go around talking to people about manga. Just because, well, people don't even know what it is, let alone even pronounce it right(they keep saying magna for some weird reason...)

My cousin calls it bagua so it will make fun of me... also makes fun of the characters big eyes and reffer to it as 'little stories'... that coming from the guy who played with play mobile and used to make a sheep assassinate everyone in town...

Why is it stupid to not know what anime/manga is? People who read manga outside of Japan are really just part of a small sub-culture, and it seems pretty reasonable to assume that a good majority of "normal" people in any non-Asian nation haven't heard of manga before.

Back on topic:
I'd say that the majority of times that I talk about manga with people who aren't familiar with it is when I make a random reference to something. It usually goes something like:

Me: Whoa, that was so GAR.
Person: Wtf is GAR
Me: Heh, it's a random manga term.
Person:.... WOW you're a geek.
Me: I know biggrin

One thing I've learned is to never try and hide my love for manga or try and make it seem cooler by describing it as "art" or something. I just always act as if what I'm doing is normal, and my friends are being weird for NOT liking manga. For the most part it's worked; I got alot of my friends hooked on stuff like Gantz eyes

It probably helps that I don't give off the typical otaku vibes and pretty much all my friends are normal. So when people see a guy who they don't typically associate with being too out there reading manga, they don't have a prejudice against it from the start and are more willing to accept it.

So true. If a nerdy looking "loser" in school is reading it, they will also relate whatever they'll doing as "nerdy/gay" because of the prejudice against him. But if it's normal/cool people, they won't mind/might even think it's cool too. This world is so biased haha. If I read manga in school in one of my "chill" classes[like an elective], then the guys I know might ask me "whoa what's that" and they will get interested in it for a few minutes. And people who don't know me just won't care, because people in my school don't talk shit about what other people's doing unless they are "oddballs"/weird people, nerds/geeks/faggots, stands out too much [in a negative way], or just plain hated on. So if you're normal, anything you do is considered "normal" too lol.

Also, almost everyone in my school knows what anime/manga is, because of the english Naruto. Even the white/mexican kids know.

But I never brought manga to school, it's not like I'm hiding my hobby, but very few people know I read manga, even my friends[some knows but doesn't give a shit]. Actually, I think other than some of my friends, no one else in school knows that I read manga. I never talk about it, and even if I hear people talk about it, it's not like I'm eager to start a conversation about anime/manga, so I just ignore it. If someone asks me if I read it though, I would say yea, but it never came to that so...

Well, I manage to convert two people to manga. I talk about manga and anime with them a lot. When talking with someone who doesn't know about manga I simply say Japanese comic, since that's much easier for them to comprehend.

*reads manga during pause on collage*
A: What are you doing?
Me: Just reading some comic.
A: Oh... you read comics?
Me: Yeah, this one is good. A Japanese comic.
A: Japanese? *rise an eyebrow*
Me: Aha, they are called manga. Here see for yourself.
*hands him Negima volume 8*
A: Uh... hey, what the hell? It's backwards... o.O

That's the point where they return it back and label me as "that guy who reads weird stuff". Well, they are all grown up people so they respect that even though they always give me that weird look when they see me reading manga...

Anything related to anime and manga my mother calls "those Japanese"

How do people react when you tell them you read manga?
Or try talking with them about a manga.

It usually goes like this for me:
Me: Ever heard about manga? I like reading it.
Person: Mango?
Me: Manga... Why would I read a mango?...
Person: I don't know...
Me: It's japanese comics... You know, like anime and stuff?~
Person: Anime?
Me :...
Me: The cartoons with big eyes.
Person: Oh!...
Me: Yes, so those are japanese comics... I like reading them...
Person: You read comics? Ok...
Me: What?... It's different...
Person: Ok...
Me: Well... I like it...
Person: Those are still comics...
Me: ... yes...
Me: Would you like to try?
Person: ...
Person: No.
Me: Why are you being like this?...
Person: I said no, leave me alone.
Me: Fine.
Person: So, *random chattering*
Me: none

You know, I've got tired of explaining it even to the few people who'd listen about manga...

Note:
And no, not to random people. "person" is a friend, or someone you know.

With me, it's more like:

Me: You know manga? Those Japanese comics?
Friend A: Eww
Friend B: That's stupid
Friend C: Yeah, that's totally what a comic nerd would read
Me: You should try it
Friend A: I don't want to be associated with you anymore
Friend B: I don't know you
Friend C: Who are you again?
