[I don't know if this is in the right section so feel free to move/delete/whatever]

Hey there. I recently watched the "Nabari no Ou" anime, and because someone said the ending is different in the manga or something, was considering reading the manga.

But is reading the whole thing really worth my time? My favorite characters are Thobari and Yukimi, so are there parts in the manga that are better than in the anime, making all of the manga worth reading?

Or should I start reading the manga at a certain point, where the anime and manga differ?

Thanks in advance for the help!

First off I've never seen the anime so this may be a waste of time but the manga is pretty good so if you liked the anime you most likely will like the manga too (or even more ^_^). Oh and this topic might be moved due to the fact that it should be in the mangas own thread.

There's also a thread created that might help you. Its contents consists of anime vs manga. (:

first of all i have to say manga is cuter than anime. i would recommend you to read the manga and if it makes you bored you can always skip it. i read the manga first so while watching anime i just skip most of anime. You can do vice-versa.

I would absolutely recommend the manga.

Though the manga is much better than the anime from the very start, if you didn't want to re-read the entire manga, I'd suggest starting from volume six or seven. Starting from there would bring you in on the middle (volume six) or the end (volume seven) of the Alya arc, which would make you familiar with the major events that the anime excluded, while also bringing you in for the time that Yukimi starts getting more screen-time. I love the manga over the anime particularly because, like you, I am a huge fan of Yukimi. The anime made some rather shocking changes to his character (though I still adore the anime version of him as well) and it also excluded some development he got, and information about his past, and the way he came to join Kairoushuu.

Thobari also gets more development, though his past (in the manga) seems to have much more depth than in the anime version, which was pieced together from fragments of the manga while not really acknowledging the whole picture. That said, though it seems likely that Thobari's past will be revealed in upcoming chapters of the manga, it hasn't been completely revealed yet.

If you enjoyed the anime, I'd totally suggest picking up the manga for reasons of quality, alone. The anime was gorgeous, but had to devise its own ending because of the unfinished state of the manga. That being so, they unfortunately had to alter the storyline so that episodes 17+ were near-completely anime only (with the exception of some scenes in episode 19).

READ THE MANGA!!! lol The anime followed the manga pretty darn closely up till the last few episodes. The ending of the anime was ok, but sad. When I watched it I was like

Spoiler (highlight to view)
WTF??!! They killed off Raikou!!? That made me mad. He doesn't die in the manga (yet) <------he better not. Raikou is cool. Also, they kill off Yoite and Miharu seems ok with it!? What was all that passion for then? lol. Well, Yoite does um....evaporate(?) in the manga as well (Miharu loses it<------more like it), but it's not the end of the manga, so I bet he'll make a comeback somehow (with Miharu's help of course). And although I don't mind that ol' codger being killed by Yoite, his demise was a little anti-climatic....I was thinking a better showdown lol

So definately read the manga. The scanlations are still a bit all over the place, and when I first started reading nabari no ou there were like 4 chapters scanlated....I recommend reading them in sequence (don't go reading chapter 50 first!) cause I didn't and found it hard to get into. But it's such a great manga, so I'm gonna take a break and try reading everything from the beginning ^^
