Seriously, why do people keep saying that pronouncing it "main-gah", which is completely wrong, is the "American" way?
What I'm hearing is anime fans complaining when things are cut or changed in anime sometimes when they are localized, oh but butchering the language is A-Okay?
It is not hard to pronounce this simple word correctly. I'm not even asking people to pronounce "Akito", which is like the most forbidden word to ever pronounce for some odd reason, correctly.
It only shows that you do not care or not learned and make your arguments and discussions with other people that much less valid. I've been there.

i pronouce it a "monga"
but it really doesnt matter
i mean, why the hell did they spell it that way, if they want people to pronounce it another way.
if you read english correctly than any normal person would pronounce it as "man-ga"
but if you want to be a smart ass about it, go ahead and correct everyone who pronounces it that way

Well, when I first started reading manga I heard alot of people pronounce it the americanized way. So I pronounced it that way as well. But when I learned how to pronounce it properly, I did so. I do my best to say words as they're intended to sound.
Thinking about it, back when I was in the school band, a friend of mine was always reading manga instead of practicing like she was supposed to, and our teacher would always be telling her to put the manga away (pronouncing it the americanized way). She would usually then correct her on her pronunciation. Her response was always "Manga(americanized), manga, moongo, just put it away!" XD
This thread just reminded me of those times lol

same here.... and me and my friend usually make a joke about it... but sometimes i use the term komik.. but still, since my national language is not english, so i definitely not pronounce it using english term.
ps: sometimes i spell it ma-nga (again... just for joke) in my native language it mean something like 'whats are u doing?'

I find myself using the whitenized way 99% of the time. Though I rarely talk about manga with people, since I know very few manga fans.

this thread is wrong, the japanese way to pronounce it is ma (mah) n (n) ga (gah)
there is no "o" in manga, nor is pronounced MAN (as in the gender) ga, or MAINga

I pronounce the "a" as "ah". But Japanese is my first language though, so it's just second nature

Lol, so glad someone pointed this out. O_O;;
I was reading through the earlier posts in this thread and for the most part everyone stated they pronounced it the "right way": man (as in gender) ga...which is wrong. Was starting to doubt my pronunciation after all these years...XDD

I pronounce it 'the Japanese way', i. e. properly. /mah-n-gah/ There's no "o" in it.
Man(gender)ga sounds so wrong o.O
Edit: Btw, it sounds the same in my mother tongue as it is in Japanese /since it's an imported word/, so I never had trouble pronouncing it right.
