I've been thinking about this for a loooonnnnnnnng time: the high school girls protrayed in manga, mostly romance are their girls really that intense? Putting razors in books, throiwng shoes in the garbage, putting tacks in clothes, even locking other girls in lockers. Is this just something someone made up and people are going with, or does this actually happen? I know of girls fighting over boys, but I've never heard or seen anything even close to this, so just wodering what everyone else thinks of it

I have heard that bullying can get really intense in Japan.

In my life in the US, I have never personally seen or heard about anything anywhere near that bad, though. (To clarify, I've read news stories about some awful stuff, but never been any closer to it than that.)

i don't know if they're that fierce in japan, but here in US, i haven't personally witnessed any major conflict over guys...

it's either that we've got a large supply of good-looking males in my school, or that we don't have lockers (only small lockers for PE crap)

girls are pretty forward here...if a girl likes a boy, she would directly ask him out...the catfights i've seen so far are basically just due to silly stuff like badmouthing, spreading rumors, and gossiping...

although, our school does have a pretty strict 0-tolerance towards cases of bullying or sexual harassment...that's why most of the fights between students usually occur in the parking lot near the school

In my country is the same, of course first we talk like civilized people, if that doesn't work, well, you know what's happen, normally It's a fight with fists.

Personally, I'm not fighting person, at least with fists, I prefer to debate, but I definitely kick her ass to the girl who fight with me!!!
And by the way, I never have a fight in my life, But I saw a lot!!!

i think this is the same as e.g. mechas or kame-hame-ha, they aren't real, just a fantasy of the authors.
i have witnessed some "fights" over few guys, but they were verbally. still, japan is on the other side of the globe, so maybe something like this is possible there.

Japan puts a much higher value on conformity than the US (and many other places, but the US is the only country I've actually lived in, so I can't speak for anywhere else) so I can see some of the bullying stuff happening more there than here, and people being part of it and/or just letting it happen because they don't want to stand out.

The schools I went to, the girls didn't move in "packs" like I see in some manga. There might be groups of 3-4 who always stuck together, but rarely more than that. If you have girls moving in packs, that gets into the whole "mob mentality" thing and bullying is more likely to happen, I guess.

At least...I've never heard of that kind of bullying happening around here. For bullying, it's mostly, making up rumors, torturing emotionally by talking about them, humiliating them, making fun of them, and ignoring them.

It might happen in Japan...who knows, I've never been there, but this kind of cliche thing in manga MUST have come from somewhere

I live in the U.S. and yeah....i have seen it in person get pretty extreme...I have seen girls have a full out fight just cuz a one of the girls thought the other was hitting on her boyfriend, when really they were just childhood friends who hadn't seen each other for a while.....and i also seen some horrible stuff that people (teenager to be exact) and they get arrest for it such as: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/2008/05/26/g ang-filmed-brutal-attack-on-14-year-old-girl-86908-20429752/
^this is crazy and something similair happened in the U.S.

and here it's not just girls being cruel its guys too....bulling can get so cruel....and sometimes for the most stupid reasons

Yeah I live in the U.S. and have never seen anything like that happen. When I was in high school the worst that happen was fights breaking out everywhere, or rumors flying (really mean rumors)...but that's the worst people did.

I've seen the middle two in my high school and if our lockers were big enough I probably would have seen the last as well.

But my high school had alot of gangs in it so people did move around in packs some of the time especially on certain days.

dude that musta been tough, i went o a bad school but never THAT intense, hopefully you never had to deal with that crap.

dude i never seen bullyin like in the mangas...by the way i live in USA...i seen fights and stuff like tht...i heard few girls fightin over a boy but i somehow miss the fight...last few years i only seen maybe 4-5 fights...one was when a teacher got punched in face...but when i lived in Detroit,MI i seen lots of fights boys and girls...but nothing like in mangas tho...in detroit every1 were kool wit every1 but u kno thers like few ppl who cant help but to hate and start fights u kno...but one of the most famous fight i remember was when there was a big fight between gangs and police came but they didnt do anything--the police tht is--the fight broke out afterskool and the assistant principal got stompped the f-out it was funny as hell lol...and other was when gun was pulled out but tht was afterskool too...those are the most famous i remember but i moved in 06 tho to IL and i didnt see a fight like tht here.
