Whats up with the big difference in translation? The Tokyopop version reads like a bad porno - is it correct or entirely made up? Heres a random comparison (tokyopop translation on the left)

Wow! I've been collecting the Tokyopop version of the manga since it started releasing. I looked at that comparison and besides the big difference in translation, the scanlation even LOOKS better as far as shading and stuff. That makes me sad in the pants. sad

I registered an account here simply to reply to this thread. Tokyopop's translation is a joke. i have bought 13 volumes of "Battle Vixens" there is no story or plot to their translation. Most of the time it hardly even makes sense. They actually ADMIT this in an omake in one of the later volumes, Volume 10 i believe. I'm planning on buying Volume 14 as well, but at this point i feel ripped off and wonder if writing tokyopop a letter would do any good.

Oh wow! Um, that makes me feel kinda ripped off now. Those manga aren't cheap. I am going to get the scanlations now though, so that I can see what I've missed. Thanks for the heads up, man! biggrin

does anyone know if the Anime follows the original manga closely? is it even slightly close? i know Dragon Destiny and Great Guardians go off on their own.

the translations are the biggest shit ever. like everything is one big reference to god the fuck knows what.
i really wish that the publishers gave a literal translation.
i am fluent in japanese and have read some mangas in the original raw japanese and realise that it is not always possible to provide a literal translation (as in the word order for literal) but that just failed!

Thx thor, ala or buddha, the Ivrea Argentina version it's pretty good, altough the latter ones have been a little liberal.

btw, is there actually a decent publisher in USA?

i'm actually not too fond of Del Rey they took some liberties with the first Negima and made it a lil dirtier than it needed to be. However that was their first publication so maybe they have gotten better since then? I'm not sure that first issue made me a little biased against them.

also whats with all the slang in the tokyopop version? its completely degrading to women, I mean the nudity is i suppose to an extent but at the same time they make it into this horrible almost mafia-ish gangster bull crap. i understand taking small liberties with manga but they have completely destroyed the story in order to turn it into some type of Rape themed gangster porn movie.

I hear that Dark Horse is pretty good; is this true? I know that they often reverse/reflect pages though.

And yeah, that's why I always archive the scans after I purchase the domestic releases.

actually Dark Horse USED to do that. they no longer do. i have purchased all their Gunsmith Cats manga now that they have corrected their past mistakes. They are great, i have never had a problem and their translations seem pretty on. atleast their newer work.

yea. i like dark horse fortrigun, hellsing, andgantz.
its true that del rey did screw up a bit on the first negima, butas the series progressed, it got better (i own all of the negima to date) and they have done a good job with tsubasa reservoir chronicle and pumpkin scissors
oops! off topic none

right now, no scanlation team are scanlating this manga since it was licensed to tokyopop...but there is someone (a fan) who translate it directly from the original manga...with good a good scan quality from the original manga too...so we won't see that crappy slang translation, that horrible cover design and that "battle vixen" name...

if u're lucky, u'll find it on the net...
