Aa few posts back a few mentioned something about the cliche of rape. totally agree! I hate the more smuttier shoujo mangas that depict this kind of thing. Generally it goes something along the lines of this: girl is raped by a guy but falls for him despite what he did to her. Uwasa no Midori-Kun and teacher's pet are good example of what I'm talking about.

I agree with so many of these! The cliches are sometimes just horrible. If the characters are good, I can stand cliches, since they sometimes bring about character development, but a lot of times I'm just left shaking my head. I hate it when a girl spontaneously falls in true love with a guy she doesn't even know. Guy doesn't know... guy eventually realizes it, and admits that (le gasp) he has always loved her, too.

Cue happy ending.

Ick. Yeah... those kill me. I love shoujo that are different. I also love tragic, sad, depressing sort of stuff.

And even though it's got some cliches sprinkled all over, (all over) Koukou Debut gets points for character development. There are often cliches used in Tsukuba Sakura's stuff, but she usually manages to switch things up enough to make them interesting.

Best shoujo manga, (in my humble opinion): Immortal Rain. It's quirky and unusual, but it seems to mix shoujo without bringing along too many cliches, and shounen/action, without dragging in the horribly typical plots. Just as long as you can tough it out until volumes three and four, things are great. ^^ And I am super weird for loving Yuca, but I do. He's creepy awesome. And I am so happy that Machika isn't a typical female heroine. She certainly isn't perfect, but she knows how to use that big scythe when the time comes.

Ahem... back to the subject of shoujo cliche... windows. Why does the guy always come in through the window? bigrazz

I'm not certain that u can call these cliche but:
-I'm bored with the flower show that represents girl losing her virginity.
-boy rescuing girl from drowning in a pool, even though she's supposed to know how to swim.
-First kiss has to be by the one she likes otherwise her world will come to an end.
- Whenever the girl is not around she is being kidnapped or propositioned, why can't she ever be out buying ramen.
-The teddy bear underwear that alawys gets exposed.

Super dense girls.

At some point, that denseness or 'innocence' they're pulling off gives us that 'giggling and romantic satisfaction' but it really is getting kinda irritating especially when the guy is already throwing hints directly at her and almost everyone knows that 'he likes her' except for the girl herself. Because of this, the girl is dubbed as an 'idiot' or 'dumb'.

A example is Hikari of Special A.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Kei already confessed in an indirect manner (thanks to Yahiro), kissed her, made everyone aware that 'he likes the girl so back-off', gave endless hints and even warnings at some point, but still, she's practically in denial and eventually ended up not believing Kei's feelings at all.

Another is Mikan from Gakuen Alice.
I may not know the very whole of the story, since I've not read the manga in chronological order, but she was already kissed by two guys (one of them kissing her at least 3 times on different occasions based on my count...) and yet she still isn't aware of their feelings nor intentions.

Don't get me wrong... I love those titles but sometimes I think the lead girls look really bad because of the overly-dense personality bestowed on them... which makes them look really stupid.

This has probably been said, but I can't stand it when the girl cries every five minutes and the guy has to comfort her every time.

Or the guy will make one small mistake and the girl will run off to do some devastating act and the guy will have to come rescue her and mushy love scene ensues.

Basically, any girl who can't think for herself and makes the guy take charge. The newer manga are starting to give the heroines some dynamics (like skip beat, ouran high) but every other shoujo out there has the same lead female.

Oooo, I got one! What is the deal with the Older Sibling Idol Worship? How many times in manga do you see "I'm gonna be onii-sama's bride!" Is this a cultural thing? I've never seen little American kids so obsessed with their big siblings, at least not in my area. My big brother was a big fat stupid-head. roll eyes

Mmm... the situation where there's a heroine who isn't exactly the most wonderful person in the world, but somehow attracts every other girl's dream guy. But, she's too indecisive and neither accepts or rejects him, leaving him hanging. Yet, the guy continues to like her despite the painful ordeals he goes through chasing after her, even though there's probably a better girl out there that likes him. It gets even more fun when there's more than one guy.

The damsel in distress kind of girl, who CONSTANTLY need to be protected and just can't stand for herself. Who possesses zero amount of back bone! God, do I just loathe those kind of characters! Guys seem to find it endearing or whatever, but to most girls (at least girls which i know), they find it disgusting and fake. not to mention we absolutely put on!

Another cliche which gets to me is when the main female character gets into a situation where it is misunderstood by her boyfriend/love interest with another main male character who is in love with her but totally unrequited! It's just.... Just.. WE KNOW YOU'RE GONNA GET TOGETHER AND IT"S NOT REAL! JUST GET ON WITH IT!!
