Correct me if I'm wrong but is there any reason for having such an ability?! confused

I was playing a game with my younger brother and one of the characters can turn invisible. Okay there is no point to such an ability if the second player can spot you in a second, there's a damn health bar on top of the damn player or a ring underneath them which you can spot right away. And he tried defending it saying its the thought that counts...right...how the hell?

I understand how the concept is great for RPG games but well not for fighting games. So here is my question: Are they all like that? Because I've noticed some fighting games have the same thing. Or is it just the really bad ones? because this game isn't really all that bad.

Pointless topic? Maybe. But it's something I always wondered even if I'm not a huge fan of fighting games smile

I think the reason for invisibility is so you can't tell what kind of attack your opponent is pulling off, thus decreasing your chances of blocking.

It is in Soulcaliber 3 pretty worthless because the camera moves with the character.

I remember it being somewhat useful in the 2D fighting games since you could maneuver your character without them knowing which side you're on. Though don't clearly remember which game it was or if it was an ability/cheat/glitch but it's useful for that split second for some people.

Though the camera usually follows your character or the screen zooms accordingly making it not as effective, it can still be good against people not paying that much attention to you.

Can't remember the exact game but I've encounter games where you turn on invisibility only to have the enemies follow you anyways. They know where you are exactly but they just don't attack.

Unh... On the X Playstation game, Seishiro's ability of creating some sort of "black dimension" was quite useful. While there, the enemy couldn't recover his/her energy, and Seishiro would became invisible while running. The game takes place on a non-gravitational box, so it was very difficult for some characters to attack him. I always play as Yuzuriha, so I can use Inuki when my friends play with Seishiro.

However, I've seem a lot of games where this power is misused... I really don't get the point why they put such powers in a game, to start with. They put overpowered character and then nerf them. It would be simpler to just don't overpower the characters D:

For example, Shadowcat/Kitty Pryde's intangibility power, which "by some strange reason" she never uses on the rare games where she appears.

So far the games I've played that had this were basically Marvel games, I have seen them in other games as well though. But I know there are games as someone else said, that although you can turn invisible the camera follows you everywhere, which pretty much renders it pointless.

laugh I remember playing...I think a Matrix game, and I would put invisibility and I didn't know if it worked or not since the enemy always followed me only to find out later on that they 'know' where you are but somehow can't detect you or your attacks, but I guess that was the point of it.

i think it's pretty useless to me except for masking your attack(if he blocks high use low attack, well you know)
even 2D in Mortal Kombat invisibility is useless

No one has ever played KI on the SNES?

Cinder has invisibility and so long as you don't do his fire stream thing attack its hilarious and somewhat useful.
-Makes combo breakers harder
-harder to counter moves
-won't know which side he's coming from even if you originally knew he was on side "A"

With that said, i don't use it.
IMO, the worst ability ever is the one where a boss seems to have finite health which slowly seems infinite.

Kill him once, and he auto revives with 90%-95% of the health he had from the last health bar.

brawl has an invisibility item(maybe melee too, can't remember). it's pretty easy to see the character, but does mask attacks that aren't obvious like charging lasers, etc.

also makes for any easy way to accidentally jump off the side of a stage.

Is not THAT useless

You can catch people with an special attack and because they never saw you doing it the chances of hitting increase.

Specially attacks that take one full second to be completed >_>

No I agree that its pretty darn useless.
reptile had one. Usually all it takes is one hit for it to vanish too.

Soul Calibur has a related thing that isn't as useless as you think. They had invisible weapons. At first I thought it was stupid but fighting a high level opponent with their weapon invisible was tough.

Anyway, things turning invisible are either pointless or way too cheap. The only game where it would make sense would be the newer anime games like DBZ, Naruto, and Bleach. In both the DBZ and Naruto games, you usually move around an area, so that might actually be useful(pretty useless in smash brothers too).
