16-18 because thats around my age so I can relate to it, and I also feel that is the perfect age for character development, your in transition from being a child to becoming an adult(ad an adult your more set on your principles and opinions, while as a teen its still being molded and ready to bloom).

12-14 for me. I don't really know why, but maybe it's my inner-shotacon calling out to me. lol. Is 12-14 even considered shotacon?

13+ to most shotafans, isn't shotacon.

As for me, I like any of them...ages. Oh god I sound like a pervert. XD

U have a choice of creative stories about a kid or older men acting like action heroes...so I suppose younger is good as long as it isnt like daigunder or pokemon..

I like it when characters start out 16 or 17, but by the end of the series end up being in their early to mid 20's.
this is how my manga is going to turn out 😎

Most of the time, I prefer 18+. But if it's done well, young protagonist is good, such as the 12 year-old boy from Alto.

not under 14 and i m fine 😛
But 18+ is better for a well develloped character and 14-18 is better for a simply minded character (i mean black/white, action before thinking).
The only thing i really hate is those shonen where 1 fight between 2 ppl can stay more than 3-4 chapters... and in the final the main character always loose but found his oponent weak spot and...OMG he never thought about protecting this spot, just hide it...
(what, it's not a thread about bad things in shonen ? sry xD)
But why always 18+ ppl have so many scars when young have none but fight more ?

Somewhere between 16 & 18 as I just thinks its better that the hero can be a bit more mature yet still feel like a teenager

umm i'd prefer 16-18, or 18+, but it all depends, there are mangas that are really mature yet they have a main character that is perhaps 16 or 15 years old
ex: Bloody Monday.
so it all depends=D
oh, also, there are characters that act like an adult or a mature person despite being underage, same goes for 18+,
