Many movies are marked as softcore porn.But,are they really porn?

In some cases it is just regular porn but shot with a second camera that is more discreetly angled. I know this because oddly enough a tv show back in the 90's, It was either 20/20 or Dateline, can't remember which, did a story on softcore porn of all things. Maybe that's changed, but probably not.

Well imo yes it is, since softcore porn is like hardcore porn produced for the sole purpose of people jacking off to it. It just leaves more to the imagination which some people apparently like. Well I shouldn't be talking since I fap to censored japanese AV which leave room for imagination also.
Anyway, if it's "art" or not is a rather philosophical question. In my opinion no, but really you can't find a definition of art that everyone agrees on.

Well, there is this one site/provider of adult films called art-x. Which tries to take porn to an art form, or performance, if you will. It's got stuff that ranges from simple nude posing to hardcore sex. They've actually got some really nice stuff. I suppose it could be considered art. Then there's also all those porn tumblr's full of gifs of hardcore action turned into tiny portraits of a moment in ecstasy . 🤣

Hardcore is explicit, softcore is suggestive. The aim of both of them is to provide sexual satisfaction. So yes, softcore pornography is also pornography.
What might make you confused, though, is softcore porno and erotica being so similar(ish). The difference is that while softcore porn's aim is sexual gratification, erotica tries to be fine-art(ish). So the actual difference is only what the makers aspire to.
You can masturbate to John Collier's Lilith, but that doesn't make it pornography. Or you might film an explicit porn film appeal to your aesthetics, but that doesn't mean anyone attempted it as art.
Far-off places with sweet sounding names.
