Doujinshi pairings' names

So I have seen more than a couple of ways people write pairings for doujinshis here in MU.
For eg, for the Free! fandom, I've seen the following in different dounjinshis:

  • Pairing: Nanase Haruka x Matsuoka Rin
  • Pairing: Haruka Nanase x Rin Matsuoka
  • Pairing: Haru x Rin
  • Pairing: Haruka x Rin

The point is, in most mangas a character usually has both a first and last name as well as nicknames, and all types of confusions can occur. This doesn't apply to any single genre but rather all; the examples I use below are BL-related only because I'm familiar with them, and not because yuri and shoujo-ai or any other doujinshi types don't have the same problem.

For Japanese manga characters (Korean for manhwa and Chinese for manhua), last names goes before first names unlike in Western countries, so some members took the liberty of changing the order of the original name, for eg Uzumaki Naruto is turned into Naruto Uzumaki. I personally don't agree with this, and propose that if the full name is shown, the order should be kept as it is by the author.

Which leads to the question, sometimes a full name can be too long and unnecessary for identifying a character. Almost everyone knows who Naruto is and thus his last name is unneeded. However in some other cases, a character is usually referred to with his last name, like Murasakibara in Kuroko no basket. In both these cases the full names are not vital in presenting the characters. So if we decide not to write down characters' full names, should we use their first or last names? And if you say that we should simply use the name often used, then what about a character who is referred to with both his first and last names by different characters? (Himuro from KuroBas can also be referred to as Tatsuya a lot of the time)

This also probes another question, what about nicknames? This might not be a sensible question for characters with obvious nicknames like 'Kuro-chin' for Kuroko, but in the example mentioned above, the character Nanase Haruka is usually called 'Haru', while his full first name is 'Haruka' and this is somewhat misleading because no one uses it, and can cause confusion for people who don't understand that Haruka is just Haru in full.

Sorry for writing an essay and you're more than welcome to ignore this if not interested. I just wanted to write down every possible outcome so that I won't have to write any more in the future about what I think.

We will not be standardizing how doujinshi pairings are named or written down

I think the reason why pairings are listed in such a wide range of ways is because that's how they were originally listed on the Scanlator's page. Most of the time when people create new series pages for those doujinshi, people just copy and paste the information from the site.
