As long as I tell myself that this is just a movie trailer and that it is not a telling of the DragonBall story, I "might" be able to tolerate it. If I look at it thinking that it not a part of the DB franchise, i can look at the trailer and that it is just another action movie made for money, I will not yell for them ruining a favorite....
I showed the trailer to one of my friends who not into anime / manga but watched Dragonball/Z/GT and they were speechless for 5 mins so yea, it will be interesting to see how much money this movie earns.....

For all of the people saying things like "It's actually good if you don't compare it to the manga and anime!", IT ISN'T. First of all, even if you don't compare it to the manga and anime (Which is VERY hard to do seeing how it's based off of the story and uses too many things from the story to not compare it), it still looks like it's gonna be just another one of those horrible cliche Hollywood action movies.
BEFORE I EXPLAIN, I WANT TO STRESS THAT I'M NOT BEING RACIST IN ANY WAY WITH THE STATEMENT DIRECTLY BELOW.
I've noticed that whenever there's a Hollywood action movie that centers around some kind of mythology (Especially Asian mythology), more often than not there's some white person that's always the "chosen one" and that needs to save the non-whites from the villain. Case in point: The Forbidden Kingdom. It has a white teen who's a huge martial arts fan protecting the Monkey King's staff for a friend and all of a sudden the staff makes the boy travel back to ancient China. There he meets certain people that tell him that he's the chosen one that they need to free the Monkey King.
Now, the movie has both Jet Li and Jackie Chan in it. You think they need the help of ANYONE to set the Monkey King free? Hell, they could've done it by themselves and not need the help of the other one! But they both get downplayed for the teen that not only acts as a bumbling idiot even when he learns some actual martial arts moves, but even defeats the main villain that the Monkey King is destined to defeat! And guess when this movie came out? April 2008.
The point I'm trying to make is that this Dragonball movie is gonna be another "White person who's the only one that can save the non-whites" plot. It's worn out and needs to stop. Yes, I know that Goku's an alien, but they could've easily cast an Asian for the role of Goku seeing how Goku's from an alien race that only has one skin color and the fact that almost every other character that's important to the plot isn't white. Which makes it look like another horrible cliche Hollywood action movie.

yeah i was real excited for the movie as a martial arts fan, but that kid really fucked it all up for me, i was just thinking "how can you fuck up a movie that has both Jet Li and Jackie Chan in it 😕 "....i'm still pissed about that

Agreed:
Forbidden kingdom: The kid had some potential for the genre but was waaay out of context... so yeah that sucked, but I still liked the movie in general ~ especially the monkey dude xd
Dragonball movie:
"White person who's the only one that can save the non-whites"
Yeah totaly; I understand that they want to make the movie less 'foreign' and more 'accessible' by replacing the asian characters; but in that case they should just replace 'em all imo. But maybe that's just me 😮
Disagreed:
Dragonball Sequel: Hmm not wrong. The dragonball story is huge so why just do the first part? However if their first part sucks balls I hope they learn from their mistakes before doing the second part... although with all the powering up it kinda makes you wonder how they're gonna handle it... keeping true to the storyline will not be much of an option I think ~
Anyway I'm one of the guys that's going to go watch it without too much of dragonball on my mind. If you're going to watch it when you're determined to 'not-like-it' and keep focusing on the things you would have done diferently, it probably will suck balls without exception 😎

Not really unexpected. My gut reaction is to say that people want to see the film just to see how bad it is. Either that or that many peolpe haven't scoured the internet for trailers of it (I haven't seen a trailer for it in theatres in the U.S., don't know about other countries).
Also in that article:

That trailer is disturbing & disgusting @ the same time...
Call me BS, but I'm not a fan of live action. The only live action movie I've ever watched is Initial D (...and I was deeply disappointed)
IMO, if ppl who haven't read/watch the original manga/anime, they may like these live action things...

Quote from Akira Toriyama
“Perhaps it is best appreciated as ‘New Dragonball’, Dragonball in an another dimension.”
If 20th Century Fox had just said this when they first showed the trailers, then there wouldn't be any of this backlash. Just ONE sentence like, "This version of Dragonball takes place in an alternate universe." and everything would've been okay.
And I still have no idea why the same people who are criticizing it are going to see it when it comes out. I mean, if you're going to see it just to make fun of how horrid it is, then the joke's on you that very moment you gave 20th Century Fox your money to buy a ticket. It's like a huge trolling moment and you have to pay for it...
And no, fooling yourself into think it's from an alternate universe is not justifiable, because it's not from an alternate universe. It's from the same one as the manga.
