Gender and inanimate objects (what do you name your car)

Poll
In general do you choose to name/imagine your inanimate objects (such as your car/computer) as female or mail? This poll is to determine how relationships between gender and sexual orientation affect how people subconsciously view inanimate objects.
I am female and I will usually imagine inanimate objects as male
I am female and I will usually imagine inanimate objects as female
I am male and I will usually imagine inanimate objects as female
I am male and I will usually imagine inanimate objects as male
I am gay and I will usually imagine inanimate objects as the same gender as myself
I am gay and I will usually imagine inanimate objects as the opposite gender as myself

So I was watching a movie the other day about cars, and the protagonist (male) kept referring to the car as a girl. This piqued my interest as I (female) have named my car and it's most definitely a boy car. I have also named my trumpet and computer (both subconsciously boys) and realized that at least with vehicles (cars boats trains) they are usually referred to as girls if there is any gender in movies (though it is usually done by a male) I also have several female friends whose cars are all usually boys. Thus I am almost positive that there is a correlation between generally choosing the opposite gender when referring to an inanimate object as though it was alive.

Therefore, I wanted to make a pole just to see not only if people generally choose the opposite gender when naming/referring to inanimate objects, but also if sexual orientation plays a role. That is to say if you were gay, would you be more likely to subconsciously choose the same gender as yourself for inanimate objects, (this would mean that choosing gender may be biased on the gender you tend to love) or would you still choose the opposite gender because orientation has nothing to do with it.

Any ones thoughts would be lovely below, also tell us what you name your car/other object. (sorry about not including bisexual or any other things if you need post it below)
(also how disturbing would it have been if my trumpet was a girl, I put my mouth on that!)

i am a girl and the only object i have ever named was my car. when i got it i was currently obsessed with code geass. my first instict was that my car is definitely a boy so i wanted to name it lelouch but i didnt want people to think i was weird so i actually named my car lulu which is what shirley calls lelouch on code geass so it sounds like a girl's name but its a boy.

My itouch, moped, and computer's voice have female names.
My computer, the wind, and the ghost have male names.

It's pretty evenly split. cool

I'm a female and some items are male and some are female. I play a saxophone two of mine are female and one is male (all three have names) , my guitar is male and named Phred but on the other hand my piano doesn't have a name or a gender. It's very common for musicians to name there instruments. Also my car also has a name and it's a he.

i only named my plushies and my barbies when i was young. they were almost all female, just my monkey (Koko) which i had since i was a baby was male. I think that´s because i was afriad of guys back then. So there was one monkey with a harem of plushies XD
But i named all the cars we had and the first one was called "Gustav" from "Gustav Gans" (german name of Gladstone Gander) because i wanted us to be lucky, the second one was called "Chico".
I don´t name things anymore

I didn't vote... because I don't really give names... But I consider my car and flute female, and my guitar and ukulele male. My lappy and compy are gender-free... as well as everything else... Hmph.

Where is the 'I don't give names' or 'I don't care' option.

Well, I usually give my PC some ugly tranny name, but
I don't name cars and such. Just stuff that has to be named.

I can't answer that since in my language we have genders for the objects too. This question is good but only for people which languages don't have genders for the objects. I can't help but thinking abt the objects in these genders. For example car is female gender and PC is male gender.

I think you should correct the poll because somehow the "het" answer options are 4 but the "gay" ones are 2. wink

P.S. Abt the same name giving, I never gave names to objects, even when I was a child.

In my language too there already are gender for objects, so whenever I give a name to one of them (which is pretty rare), I choose it along to its gender. (My car has a female name, etc.. )

Oh, my car's definitely a girl. I don't know why it's a girl, but it just is.

Where does a bisexual person fit into your poll...? biggrin
