I don't know why people update the cover image to be of the most current volume. Sometimes it can have spoilers in them showing a certain character looking really different. It's also just more work for little reason.

I tend to like it for completed series because the final volume usually has all or most of the main characters on it, which is nice to see.
For ongoing series, though, yeah... it just seems unnecessary.
