i've never been one for the whole "man is important in relationships" thing, like i dont see a set role for a certian sex, for me it can go either way, wouldent bother me in the least if she payed or if she got me flowers.
i hope atleast some of that made sense...

1. It shows she's independent, not needing the guy to pay her
2. It shows she's there to be with him. Not to be paid a dinner or to be paid her company.
