Please don't remove the novels. Just make it so that in User CP - Filtering someone can filter out novels, manga, manhwa, etc etc. If you don't want to see it you don't have to. If you do want to see it you can. I don't like the idea of completely removing them as I don't know where else to go to find novels if I want to read them.
Also, it might be a good idea to make a distinction between Novels and Web Novels. Actual novels tend to be of higher quality.

If it was totally up to me, the novels would stay even though I don't read them while all the hentai, shotacon and lolicon would get booted off the site. I think the issue really is the filtering system. While I can filter things such jose and seinen highlight pink on my release list, I cannot filter things to just never appear on the release list just because it's a novel or I hate its genre... and that is where the real issue is.
And for doujinshi, the only criteria should be if it was scanlated or not.... because if doujinshi cannot be here just because it doesn't exist in a physical copy form, then all web-based manga should go too for the same reason with no regards to if it is scanlated or not... Actually the larger issue if there is one with the web-based stuff is that it tends to never actually be manga and is usually manhwa.

Right now, there are two MU like sites in development for novels that use a database model:
WLN Updates
Novel Updates
It seems that these sites were created concurrently without one being aware of the other.
--------
Anyways, I'm for keeping novels on MU, but I do think novels are "cluttering" the releases and series stats pages, at least for people who aren't terribly into them. An ideal solution (for the users) would be having a filter option in the User CP where novels will just not show up in the releases/series stats/searches if the user so chooses. But I realize that's more work on the admin side of things.
The reason why I want novels to stay on MU is because MU has the userbase and the preexisting infrastructure for it. For the most part, the tag system and search is pretty good at what it does.
I realize I'm not offering any solutions, but feedback is something I have in plenty.
EDIT: Fixed links.

NovelUpdates seems like a legit website. Only problem is that it doesn't have any publisher information, or any Status in Country of Origin, nor the year it was made, nor the Activity Stats (vs. other series), etc. WLN Updates

I am sure all those things I mentioned are in working progress.
Another issue I have is that WLN Updates doesn't seem accessible at all. Could the site be dead?

Nah, I think it's a bug in MU: If you use the [url] tags you have to omit https://, or else the link will look like http://https//etcete.ra and you'll be redirected to a random site.
Try this link.

Thanks! so it had that https:// before it inorder for it to be accessible.
I was really planning on making my own website, but I guess I don't need to at all.
But I still feel like I'll need to plan to make another mangaupdates website if this site fails in the future. With these new policy changes, I'm starting not to trust its future.

I am confused, can't you filter out hentai? I have had mine set to not show hentai on the release list for years. And yeah you can't do novels but you can block groups that only post novels. That gets rid of a huge chunk of stuff.
