I know this is a manga site , but while I do prefer manga to anime I tend to watch some anime titles. Viz recently announced that it would stream naruto for free at naruto.com. I really don't think this is a great idea myself (as I tend to like higher quality) and for some reason the fansubbers usually tend to do a better job than most companies. I was just wondering how other people felt about the subject. honostly if i had the choice to buy fansubs over company subs.

Why not? Some people like the subs. Plus it's not chancing removal.

if its long semi crappy shonen, then streaming would be fine for me. 😮

Oh, the "fansubbers do a better job than companies" stereotype again. It's really not true, and you're kidding yourself if you honestly believe it is. Obviously, there are exceptions on both sides, but by and large you have people that know what they're doing working for the bigger companies, and they tend to do a good job, much better than the vast majority of subgroups who tend to have weak editing and/or subpar translators. And really, unless you actually speak Japanese, you would have no way of knowing- translation and accurate editing are both very complex jobs.

Anyway, pet peeves and my ranting aside, legal alternatives are good. This basically gives a subsidized release in a timely manner- if you want higher quality you can buy the DVD, or pirate it in the normal fashion if you feel like being stingy or just don't have the money.

I prefer manga over anime by all means.
When I've read the manga, I won't be
reading it again, thus I won't even watch
the anime since they are basically the same
story.

I'm pretty much the same. I'll watch for really cool action scenes. I find that anime can be worse than manga.

So that doesn't count for anime only stuff then?

Im all for some of the jobs done with studios Subs and obviously you can tell both sides have their gems. I really don't buy an anime unless its a movie or a really memorable series for me same with my manga. I'm just kind of seeing it as a downturn liking my quality but the ease of access and no charge are what really keep me around. (even some charges would be more than fine in my opinion.) What I'm really looking at is if media companies throw out these bestseller animes for free on crappy mediums is fansubbers starting to phase out and all we'll really be left with is the mainstream money making shounen series stuck on mediocre media mediums.

I understand what you're trying to say, but it's an unwarranted fear. In that case only the subbers working on mainstream shounen shows are going to be phased out. Unless every show is universally ported legally each and every week, that sort of thing really isn't going to happen.

As long as there's an audience for something and people who are willing to work, it'll get subbed if no one else is doing it.

And again, for people who want higher resolution versions, I'm sure there will be multiple people releases encodes, and there are always DVDs. This is a step in the right direction here, because it advocates universal accessibility in a legal manner. It's a sign that the companies are starting to change a bit.

I think there is much more "must read" manga than "must watch" anime, well at least for me.

For example this season I watch
-Gundam 00 (wtf going wrong with this)
-Tytania (slightly better than average, except for the OP song XD)
-To Aru Majutsu no Index (lame plot 😮 psyhic and magic don't go well together)
-Chaos Head (another lame plot, Alleluyah your voice suit this guy perfectly 😀 )
-Kurozuka (has better arts than manga but less details)
-Kannagi (this is hella funny definitely anime of the season)
-Toradora (hmm another Louise clone)

conclusion: the only one I could recommend is Kannagi.

I wonder when a decent anime series like GiTS will come again.
