China is known for its laid back copyright law, which resulted in many interesting plagiarism stories. In one case, Futabasha found themselves infringing the trademark of their own property.
Just recently, teen novels published by one of China's most popular publisher Joustar have been discovered plagiarizing CLAMP and many other Japanese and Chinese artists. Almost every single one of CLAMP's works (X, Card Captor Sakura, Tsubasa, and more) were copied, both in artwork and text. Comparisons of artworks can be found at Lost Magician's album.
Joustar is a relatively new publisher that publishes novels aimed at teens. Despite its late entry into the market, Joustar quickly became one of the most popular publisher among teens, praised by many for its high quality release.
To me, it is disgusting that the company gets away with this blatant plagiarism. What disturbs me is that CLAMP, to the best of my knowledge, does not even know that this is happening to them. It would be fantastic if CLAMP could somehow be told that their hard work is being ripped off.
This is fairly old news, though. Something may never be done.

With the plagiarism cases around the manga world being a hot topic nowadays, I think news about this guy has probably reached CLAMP already, either by them directly hearing about it, or by hundreds of fans emailing them about it. I don't know what they're doing about it though. If the plagiarism laws in China are that bad (and I don't really know now), I doubt clamp can do anything about the guy---and I'm sure he knows it.
Anyway, that's what happens with artists who know how to draw but aren't good in anything else...They should just collaborate with with someone creative enough to make good stories---just look how great death note turned out to be.^^

Lol...and the japanes publishers are so concerned about scanlations when something even worse is going on not so far away from them.
With China's copyright law...I don't think that there is even a tiny little chance for CLAMP to get a recompensation.

I think they know. If you want to make sure, contact them - I'm sure there are some e-mail adresses you could use for that.

Actually, I highly doubt that the Japanese have fully grasped Joustar yet, because a search of Joustar on google.co.jp yields little to nothing.
But man, if 2ch knew about this, they'd rip the company to shreds.

I'm pretty sure clamp knows about this. Type in "clamp" and 剽窃 and you'll get results. This is one of the results you're gonna get: http://bbs2.orange-e.net/?id=clamp
It's a bunch of Japanese-speaking Chinese people apologizing to clamp about the number of plagiarisms from their works. There are also Japanese boards talking about clamp plagiarisms: http://mewtrash.s277.xrea.com/test/read.cgi/anime2tr/1184823328/.

I don't know.....how about people who scan manga online and distributed them.....I think that's just as bad as plagiarizing....

The final post on there, did someone from here write that, or were they asking for English-speaking aid?
I'd suggest that people all over the world press this so hard that the company buckles under pressure. It's possible. Certainly.

Well, seeing as how that post is around 4 months old, I don't think someone from here wrote that. And they're not asking for english-speaking aid. It's just to show you that Japanese people aren't as clueless as you think.

I had no idea Joustar was written as "聚星", so I didn't know that Japan had already had discussions of it.
However, it disgusts me that this is going on. I would launch my top secret refresh machine on the 聚星 official website if I wanted to and bring it down, but I think that would be disrespectful and would not do anything.
And this isn't even going to help China and Japan's rocky relationships. They're already pissed at each other.
It's just...really weird. Someone as strict on using their images (CLAMP won't let people on the internet use their images for galleries and stuff) never pursued this in any way that we'd hear about...?
