The ringtone topic reminded me about something interesting, most people must have heard about the teen buzz ringtone?

In case you havent, its a high frequency alarm and ringtone that can be heard by teenagers only and sometimes upto 25 year olds. Here is an imeem mp3 sample or a .wav download which is less lossy than the mp3. I can only hear it in a quiet room with the volume turned up. How many of you can hear it above a din?

I've only heard of that anti-teen sound,
but this is rather close to it.

Yeah I agree. It really hurts. But I didn't know it was used as a ringtone.

i already heard that sound because one of my classmates put it in the middle of the class and there was a girl that started yelling at him xD
but it hurts like hell after you hear it

The first time I heard of it. I can hear it all of it kinda hurt my hears. If these teens think their are safe having these and have me for teacher well they are in trouble!

the sound reminds me of those dog whistles..
doesn't hurt much.unless i turn my speakers to the max.

Ugh, at 33 I can still hear the 17.5kHz tone. It does hurt.

And a friend of mine in her 40s, who teaches middle schoolers, can also still hear it. Her students weren't especially happy about that. 😉

Edit: I suppose it will matter how loud the cell phone volume is turned up as well.

One of my teacher's played it once to see if we could hear... I can only hear it at 12 khz

Yes, I can hear it. It didn't hurt my ears, but it was annoying and gave me a headache.

my computer fan is warped so sometimes it makes this sound, annoying as hell...

First time I ever heard of anything like that (probably because I don't own a cellphone 🤣 😎 ).
Anyway, despite being in the age range, couldn't be sure I was really hearing it. Was it supposed to sound like some high whistling sound? had to turn up the volume even though the room was silent
