What does marriage mean to you

Just wondering about your thoughts on marriage. In a lot of countries, marriage rates are declining and divorce rates are climbing. Do you think that marriage is outdated and no longer necessary? Do you plan on getting married?
Also, there are so many reasons why people get married (love, financial, spiritual, social norms, etc). What would be your reasons for getting (or avoiding) marriage and what reasons do you think should be the most important?
For me, getting married isn't a goal in my life. If I find someone I want to get married to, that would be great, but I don't think I would be disappointed if I never got married. I think that since there is not as much of a stigma against couples being together without being married as there was in the past, that there isn't a huge need to get married. Although it does make things easier, like tax benefits. I just don't think a piece of paper and a ring makes you more committed to your partner than those without that.

Well when i think about that i can't help but think about my grandparents, they loved each other till my grandpa dyed of a stroke, that lead my grandma to get alzheimer, she then dyed of choking, she couldn't take herself any more and would't shallow her food... it was a terrible sight..
Aside for that my mother raised me alone so i never had any other contact with marriage, so it just bring me bad memories.
Not to mention that off lately people just get married on impulse and there a lot of divorces so marriage is no longer what it was.
