Hey, I was wondering wether your schools covered mental illnesses in their health program. The schools I went to covered sexual health, but very little mental health, not even depression was spoken about much. What are your experiences with this.

I ask because by twenty twenty, depression with be the highest cause for admission into hospital in Australia, maybe world wide, so, does anyone actually know very much about it.

Barely any. We were told to contact school nurse if we need to talk about that stuff,
but scientifically we did not explore it.

We had one Biology lesson in which we talked about illnesses, also mental, but there wasn't much said about them, we focused on somatic illnesses.
Also, one year there were many suicides in our school, so our teachers (genuinely worried about us) talked to us about how we are not alone and we can always talk to them about our problems. And the headmaster (worried more about the school's reputation than the students) hired a psychologist who ran some tests on us.
But nobody talked to us about depression, it was more like "If you have some problems, I'm sure they can be solved". I think they didn't believe that a person of our age (high school) could really be depressed, I guess they thought it was just teenage angst or something like that.

Warn: Banned

All I remember about my mental health from the health class at my school was that there were A and B type personalities. Either you're stressed in your life, or you're not.

Also, I remember watching Bang, Bang, You're Dead.

Wasn't that the guidance counselor's job? Well in the high school I attended, all the grades would come together and the guidance counselor would discuss mental illnesses, physical illnesses, diseases, peer pressure and so on.
