The live-action television series based on Satoru Hiura's women's romance manga Hotaru no Hikari - It's Only Little Light in My Life is in turn inspiring a movie spinoff. The movie is scheduled to premiere in 2012, but a title has yet to be decided. The stars of the television version, Haruka Ayase (Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror's Haruka, Crying Out Love in the Center of the World's Aya) and Naohito Fujiki (20th Century Boys' Chōno, GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka's Ryuji Saejima) will reprise their roles in the story to be set and filmed in Rome, Italy. Hiroshi Yoshino, a director on the television series, will also direct the film, and shooting will start in the middle of this month.

The Hotaru no Hikari television series already ran two seasons, and the second season aired in Japan beginning in July of last year.

Serialized in Kodansha's Kiss magazine from 2004 to 2009, the manga follows the life of the 27-year-old office worker Hotaru who is uninterested in love. Hotaru's situation gets complicated as she suddenly finds herself living with her boss Seiichi Takano. Various office romances develop as Hotaru tries to find her path in life.
