i was reading monkey high and i noticed something weird about the teachers, how they grab and pull the students and shove their faces into the ground. i know its supposed to be funny and all, but i found it a little strance. are all teachers like that in japan, or was the manga artist being funny? in america a teacher could get fired and sued for touching a student in any way that could be considered harassed. i have never seen a teacher in america treat a student like that....

well the values are different in america than in japan, China, or korea. I know for a fact that in korea you still get hit with a stick just for being out of line with a teacher. To them it's a form of discipline, but in america it's a form of abuse and harrassment. But I guess the artist is trying to show the humorous side of that because it is common.

im surprised it still happens, how can a parent be okay with someone else hitting their kid? but your right i do think the author was trying to be funny, but it still bugged me to see teachers so comfortable in hitting kids...

Like Hanen said, the values are different. You would have to live and grow up in their culture to understand. To you it's hitting or harassment, to them it's discipline. It's best just to not misunderstand.

it's not as bad as you think... Think of it as a friend punching you in the arm for saying something stupid, it's more from a place out of care rather than pure hate, unless you have those types of teachers that just does it because he's really mad and just wants to vent.
I for one understand because I've been through it, and for a long time, it's been known to me as just disciplinary actions. Sure it hurts, but I didn't mind because my friends also been hit. it's fun to watch.
Mind you that not ALL teachers are ok with this, some are highly against it because they understand it to be backwards and not productive towards a changing future.

thats interesting to know that not all teachers feel the same.
i guess its easier to understand if you grow up with something and it becomes natural. when i was a kid the teachers always made it a big deal that you could not be touched or hit, not even by your parents. When i said that to my mom, she said told me that if I, or anyone, tried to tell her how to discipline her kids, shed kill me and go to jail gladly. lol... my moms cuban... in her culture its okay for a parent to spank a child, but shes never spanked her kids, she likes to act tougher than she is...

I think it is a culture thing which happens, but in this case got more attention and bigger to serve the manga. Such culture thing of 'setting the students right' did happen in the Netherlands when my parents were kids.
Similar things happen in Orange Yane no Chiisana Ie, Gokusen, Akira and Akuma to Love Song.
But I do think it gets exaggerated.
