This week's poll was suggested by Afiaki. You have a preferred reading layout? I like how MangaDex allows you so many options for your reading experience.

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: At what age did you start reading manga?
Choices:
10 years old and before (young'un) - votes: 685 (16.3%)
10 to 14 years old (middle school years) - votes: 1501 (35.8%)
14 to 18 years old (high school years) - votes: 1111 (26.5%)
18 to 22 years old (college years) - votes: 529 (12.6%)
22 to 30 years old (young adult) - votes: 242 (5.8%)
30 to 40 years old (prime times) - votes: 67 (1.6%)
40 years old and above (getting old) - votes: 57 (1.4%)
There were 4192 total votes.
The poll ended: September 23rd, 2023 9:38pm PDT

Start them young and they'll love it forever

I'm all in on Single Page, though obviously it doesn't work well at all for the long strip webtoons.

I hate reading paged manga as long strip so much, and so many of the shadier sites don't have paged views any more.

Depend on the size of the screen mmm...
If I got bigger screen like at least 24 inch, I'll go single page, other than that long strip is preferable for me mmm...
But then, on smartphone, it's a toss between long strip and single page, usually depending on the font mmm...

I definitely prefer Single Page. However, when using manga sites this often means I have to scroll past ads again and again to see the pages. So sometimes I read in long strip format. On MangaPark you can read in long strip format while keeping margins with page numbers between the pages. MangaDex is good but I can't use it on mobile since the page is now too big to load on my old phone.

Reading single page manga in a long strip is not too bad but actual long strip manga get annoying. Too much white space and black fades. Also only one frame at a time?? More compact pages give a better reading experience.

For webtoons or media designed for long strip, I prefer long strip. But for literally everything else, I want single page. This means, in most cases, I want single page.

I've never really been a fan of manhua's style of long strip but I can see the appeal for some people. Horizontal strip just sounds insane to me though, lol.

As others said, if it was designed for long strip, that's one thing, but it can already be mildly annoying to have a double page spread when reading single page, but that sounds like a nightmare if someone just posted all single pages as long strip so now the spread is stacked on top of itself.

I read mostly on tablet. Scrolling long strips is tough for finger and it's pad. Also, reading page partially is somehow inconvenient. So, there's only 1 choice left: single page.

Jump is famous for its double-page spreads so that's what I picked since I have a fucking giant-ass monitor.

If a manga doesn't have any double page spreads then I would pick single page. But it just sucks when scanlators can't piece together double page spreads so it's better to just default to double page for the whole manga if any spreads do end up appearing. That way it's exactly as if you were reading it in a magazine or tankoubon.

I totally agree with you. Single page all the way, except on seishua page (the single page interface is terrible on phone and web).

Most webtoons abuse the spacing between each panel and sometimes repeat half the prior chapter. I think it's because they force the authors to publish weekly a certain amount of panels. I really don't understand why after they end the popular ones aren't compiled into a better format. I usually end up zooming out when there isn't too much text.

Not a long strip but continuous vertical. I find it most appealing, since I read manga on phone. It easily to read that way particularly because I'm a bit of fast reader.

I got used to long strip early on bc I had shit internet connection growing up lol. If I had to load it page by page I'd be spending 10-30 seconds per page change in loading, which was annoying and killed the flow. I loved when sites gave me the option to load it all at once as a long strip bc I could just let the page load while I got a drink or something and come back to uninterrupted reading.

Now it just feels weird to have to click page by page, even if my connection is better than before, would rather just scroll.

Double page was always the worst for reading on a computer, bc it was so awkward to have to scroll down to the bottom half of page 1 and then scroll back up to read the top half of page 2, then back down again to read the bottom half. Too much of that quick up and down scrolling made me dizzy lol.

Single page on mobile. Double on PC. I usually read on mobile so voted for single.

While I'm not a huge fan of how the long-strip format has introduced shorter and shorter chapters for webcomics, I generally read in long-strip now, simply because it feels much smoother to read on a PC by continuously scrolling down than clicking to turn a page.

I'm not a fan of "converting" manga to webtoon formats that some services do though. I think vertical scrolling can just be implemented for manga without having to shift any of the panels around, which always looks atrocious.

On a similar note, I also think most webtoons that have been converted into traditional publishing format have noticeably inferior paneling compared to series that are natively in that format.

E-ink e-reader (14"😉 -> Single horizontal

Phone (6.7"😉 -> long strip

PC -> natively how each series was designed to be read. If mango -> single horizontal; if webcomics -> long strip
