Releasing Scanlations w/ Your Real Name

Hi! I'm new here, my name is Sara. I'm 25 and live in downtown San Francisco.
I've been sitting on some heretofore un-released scanlations I've produced for a while now because I just can't come up with a pseudonym to use. Why is it that nobody uses their real names? Is it because you may get sued, or just for fun? I'm planning on applying for internships and to graduate schools soon, and thought that if I used my real name that it may look like a really interesting extracurricular activity! So I want to know whether it is inadvisable to just use my real name.
Thank you~! π
Edit: Thanks for moving my post to the appropriate section and sorry I didn't get it right the first time.

I wouldn't. It is illegal in every way, and I doubt it would be helpful to you at all. You can always mention that you translate for fun (that you know another language) and that you are very adept with an editing software, maybe... π I don't know. I sometimes regret using an alias that has my last name, but I haven't thought of ever adding it in my resume. I just personally wouldn't, but it's your call in the end.
Welcome to MU, by the way. π

Legality aside, on the Intarwebs there is no shortage of little shitheads who seem to have nothing better to do than harass people they disagree with ever so slightly. In my opinion, it's best not to give them too much real information to go on. (This isn't exactly exclusive to scanlation, of course.)
Welcome to the internet?
Everyone uses pseudonyms here.
Except on facebook, but that's only for friends.
Nobody wants total strangers to know about their private life...
Plus there's the minor legal issues of uploading copyright material...
Thank the Heavens for internet anonymity.

I wouldn't recommend it.
God knows what kind of attention you could get...and I'm not talking about the law o_o
It's not *that *hard to come up with a nickname. Just think of something you like, and derive it from that! (I'd stay away from lame anime referenced ones though)

You shouldn't.
The reasons are stated in the posts above me.
The name doesn't have to be elaborate, innovative or even interesting.
Use "Sara Scans" or something if you really want your name included. π
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

Hmm, thanks for the advice! Those are all good reasons. I guess I stopped thinking about the harassment issue a long time ago. Thankfully, I've already conjured up a simple alias and will be sticking up those scanlations under it once I get my site whipped up. π
I appreciate it wholeheartedly!

quick google reveals a few stuff about yourself, you should be more self conscious of what you post on the net about yourself.

Eh? I already know what sort of things are easy to find about me with a quick google search. I'm a CompSci major, after all. π
(An additional thought: ) I guess I'm just not a very self-conscious person. I don't keep secrets of my own and really have nothing embarrassing to hide. I split my knee open last week and had pix on my Facebook within an hour. shrug Of course, I don't expect that everyone else feels the same way. Also, most of the stuff you get when Googling my name isn't even about me, it's about Sarah Pulis and another Sara Pulis somewhere in the US.

It's the internet, it's not 100% safe to use your real name. lol
That's why everyone has pseudonyms.

You know what would have been a cool name... Popilius.
Now, just a suggestion... you might want to ask one of the admins to change your name.

Hmm, I suppose it wouldn't be safe to use my real name in case somebody wanted to stalk me, but when you have no value to your identity (credit rating, etc), I really don't see a problem with it. Maybe I'm missing something here.
Popilius is an interesting name! I'll have to mull it over. π

probably a good example would be people trying to hack your facebook etc. Going by personal info people can actually have a good guess on peoples passwords are. eg. dogname1, partners name, etc etc.
some places do offer the stupid "security question" which can be easily found by leaked info. Also there have been a few people "hacking" peoples facebook/myspace/hotmail accounts and posing as the victim posting filth and accidentally claiming it as an accident.

I never thought of it that way.
All my accounts all over the internet I just Kitteh. It started in grade 8 when trying to make an email account and I couldn't make Kitty.
I use it for scanlating because its my internet name. Nothing other then that.

Some stupid stuff I posted on the internet years ago is still around for people to find. Even if you don't care at the moment, you never know how you'll feel in a a few years. :-/
