This is a topic for discussing the great author known as Stephen King.

For those who don't know who he is, he's an American author who primarily writes books of horror, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy. His books have sold more than 350 million copies, and many of his works have been adapted for film and television.

Now, I started getting into Stephen King last year when I was bored and picked up an old book lying around called "The Eyes of the Dragon". I loved it, and I immediately started buying book after book written by him. I currently own at least fifteen of his fantastic novels, including many of his Bachman books. Is anyone else here as big a King fan as I am? If so, what got you into his novels. And of course, what are some of your favorites?

Unfortunatly I haven't read that much by stephen king. Though what I have read is superb.
My favorite would be The Shining. I'll take the book over the movie any day of the week, although Jack Nicholson is awesome.

I've only ever read The Shining and Four Past Midnight, but I was exposed to his movies at a really young age. This might help explain my sort of disturbing tolerance for most horror and violence.

I always thought his stuff was weak... but i read alot of his books when i was young and i think they've all been down hill

I haven't actually 'read' any of his books per say... 😐 But, I love his stories Pet Cemetery, IT, and The Shining. I watched 'em all when I was young and they grew on me. Or rather attached half-willingly to me.

But Carrie will always be my favourite, as I finished the book in one sitting compared to the others which took me sometimes weeks to complete, although Christine is a close second.

I figured since it's a collab between him and Peter Straub, it'd best go under "other". The only ones up there that I actually mentioned by name are the novels that are under his name only. Just cuz I didn't want the pole to get super long. haha. In retrospect, I probly should have put his collabs up there. After all, he's only done two. haha

Ive read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Dolores Clairborne, Four Past Midnight, Everythings Eventual, and Skeleton Crew. I have tried reading some other ones but I couldnt get past the first half. I like his short stories, The Road Virus Heads North (That scared me for a couple days) and 1408 which was really creepy.

it's alright, it takes ages for the story to get going and when it does it's really good! so if you have enough patience then it's a good story.

i'm about 200 pages in and i love it. Nothing's really happened with the "evil" thing yet, but the characters are great and there's always that looming darkness, even when everything seems ok. Give the story a great level of entertainment and suspense even when hardly anything's happening. It kind of reminds me of "It" in that sense. Hell, it reminds me of It in a lot of senses. haha. But yeah, it's good so far. For me it's pretty much flowed smoothly, but I can see what you mean about some people having to have patience to get through it. Might bore a lot of folks out there.

In other news, I was the only one to vote for the stand!? C'mon, people! But really, the results have been interesting so far. Never knew Dreamcatcher was so damn popular. Now I'm actually kind of interested in it. At first i just sorta passed by it. And it seems his short fiction collections are quite popular too.
I'm thinking of reading Pet Sematary at some point, but the plot seemed kind of cheesy to me. Although I've heard it's really good, and oftentimes people say it's his most horrific novel

The only Stephen King "novel" I "read" was The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. The pop-up book version. It was in my middle-school library. :-|
