Wondering if there are any other twisted fairy tail retellings with a more dark, sinister, and psychological turn to them such as this video game where the lead is stuck somewhere in between realities?
Nothing with animal torture/death, please. That's something I can't handle well. 😢

But, with a lot of fairy tales, they are already twisted. It's just that dozens of companies decided to ape Disney and have sanitized the products ever since, or they're just a bunch of whimps. Heck, even more recent "children's classics" such as Watership Down are now being branded as "too violent" for the kids, so they're creating a sanitized remake.

Hells Angels / the madhouse film adaptation is the most direct manga analogue to the Alice games, as I immediately had it on my mind.

I'm not familiar with American McGee's Alice, but if you're looking for unsettling fairy tale adaptations, you could try Sneewittchen - Geschichten nach Grimm by Morohoshi Daijirou. And if you like that, he has another compilation called Frau Trude that'll be getting some translations by and by.

Though note that, like the original stories, a few of the tales do feature animal deaths.
