Cults and religions are essentially the same thing, just on different scales. The word "cult" simply has a more negative connotation due to several incidents, the meaning is virtually the same except for size.

It doesn't matter how a religion is formed or what supreme theory it believes in, what matters as you mentioned is the moral beliefs and how they treat their members. I mean sure the whole basis of scientology is absolute BS, but are you telling me a cracker jew walking on water isn't just as BS? Don't let the religion divide the people, let the moral beliefs divide the people. If you belive murder is justified, live in a society of murder and if you believe thy shalt not kill, then live in a peaceful society. But it is important that a religion stands firmly with their moralistic beliefs. We don't want religions flip flopping on their beliefs by justifying murder in the name of God.

Scientology may be silly and stupid, but hey, at least all of the silly and stupid people are gathered in one place. 😛

Scientology actually is NOT recognized as a religion in many European countries and many other sane parts of the world.
L. Ron Hubbard is a mediocre science fiction writer at best who just wanted to avoid the tax man. Man might need spirituality but picking a religion out of a hat is ridiculous.

For the interested you can check and see that quite a few countries don't want to give it tax-exempt status and recognize it as a religion.

Anyway who cares... With all the media centered on Scientology gods Cruise and Travolta, theres not much that a clown cult like that can do to negatively impact (reasonably sane) peoples lives. I bet theres worse cults/organizations out there.

I'd also like to clarify that by 'harassment' this includes but is not limited to suing anyone who criticizes Scientology for Libel, despite it being a public body that should therefore be open to criticism of its image.

I have issues with Scientology, the actual corporate structure of it, not the people itself nor the teachings. Having a star wars-like space opera for the universe's past isn't really that far off from a lot of religions. But taking member's money and preventing them from receiving real health care due to personal gain... (Including all the psychotic parents who refuse to let their children be treated.)

And of course the illegal acts... That's just... -ridiculous-.

I reckon the South Park episode did a pretty damn good job of describing Scientology. If you want something more serious read Nins post. But my personal belief is that any faith that makes members pay for practicing the said faith or 'higher teachings' is just a faux religion and should be barred from practicing.

BTW: I have absolutely no quarrels with people who are religious, the pursuit of increasing one's spiritual well being is a great goal to strive for. But like I said Scientology does it at a price and that is just abhorrent.

Unfortunately most (by most I mean all) religions are way too contradictory for my taste (flip floppers), hence the reason i don't believe in it.

I figure scientology is just aimed at the rich, because all religions take money (collection box, money bin, donations, etc.) They are all just something for people to believe in because if we all thought too hard about how horrible life is we wouldn't continue to live, but I certainly don't need another unsure thing, like religion, in my life.

on topic, Scientology is an abomination that needs to be dispatched up as soon as possible.

Scientology? Weren't they linked to a rash of incidents like blackmail, tax evasion, kidnapping, forcing their members to cut off all relations with their family, murder,child abuse possibly inclusive of sex abuse, etc.?

That said... on the surface, they don't seem that different from other religions but once you consult various resources(online news sites, Crime library, etc.), etc., the ugly facts start rearing their heads. It's possible that some of these claims have only a varying degree of truthfulness, but I don't think it's likely that every source is lying.

the only thing i object to "scientology" is the abuse of the word "science" in it's name.

it's an insult and obvious deliberate taunt against all that is rational and logical.

they can do whatever they please in their privacy as any religion is concern.

just know that when the Machine God Arise they will be the first to be line against the wall.
