Can there be added option to indicate a title is allowable in English on Renta, or write it as such somewhere else?
Renta is not a licensing company as far as I know, just a retailer who offers publishers who chose to use them to put their titles in English online as well.
They have a lot of titles from English publishers (JUNE/DMP), as well as Japanese publishers (like Bevy, futurecomics, etc) but in English.
Since it's not an actual license, and it's far from being a scanlation I'm not sure where it would be OK to indicate this.
Why do I think we need this?

1. So people can support manga
2. Many scanlaitors see no point in doing a title if it's already available in English (also refer to #1)

If the admins allow it, I would absolutely be in favor of adding more information about legal English releases. More info is always better, I say. But I do see how it can be hard to categorize with the way the publisher database is set up right now. As you say, Renta's just the distributor, and what's becoming more common is the Japanese publishers themselves doing more releases in English. BookWalker is sort of in the same boat, being listed as a publisher when it's actually an ebookstore owned by Kadokawa.

Oh yeah! And I forgot of Pixiv as well. I asked about it in the past but got turned down. My approach was wrong but the work is clearly separated and released in English now. Pixiv is the publisher, but it still doesn't count as license per see... well at least as far as I know.

How exactly does Renta work? And how does it allow you to freely read anything? We only allow release info by publishers who allow free reading of their stuff that isn't a huge hassle for readers

I wasn't implying to announce them as scanlation releases, but just provide info on works page that that content is available in English for pursue (ugh, I see my topic title may have been misleading here :x).

Renta and BookWalker are in a way like DMG. And DMG stuff is not announced as release, but it is written on work's page. That is because DMG actually is a license so it fits under "Licensed (in English)" and "English Publisher".

Now Renta and BookWalker are retailers who can be commissioned by publishers (official copyright holders) to translate their work into English and make it available on their English/global site. You pay for it, just like for DMG stuff, but DMG has all the rights for English release, while Renta and BookWalker do not since copyright is retained by original publisher (in Japan). However the said t
titles are still available only at Renta or BookWalker.
Or at least so far I have not seen titles that were originally commissioned to be published in English to Renta mirrored at other online stores.

I hope what I wrote makes sense.... I donno would this info fit under "English Publisher"? Tho it's not really a publisher... :/

How about this as a sample procedure?

Here's a title on Renta, and in our database: Kimi to Koi ni Ochite Nakereba

I put the Japanese publisher in the English publisher field, with an additional note that it's available on Renta to reflect that it doesn't have the wider distribution of a typical manga license. I didn't put in a change to the Licensed field yet, as I'm not sure if we would count it as Licensed or not. Would this be an acceptable way to deal with these English releases that are exclusive to only one or two sites? The only major impact I can see this format having on the database is having to add a bunch more obscure/indie publishers and authors, as they seem to make up a lot of Renta's catalogue.

oriana3k pretty much solved it with his suggestion in my eyes.
I can´t see any downsides either as the MU entries only gain additional information without messing with any of the big functions.

I think it should count as licensed. Anything officially released in English should be marked "licensed".

Actually, I was trying to add Renta as source for manga published in English.
Both Japanese and English Renta are owned by Papyless.

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but since Papyless pays for manga to be translated and typesetted, I think they got the rights for it and it qualifies as licensing.

I would lean slightly to the no side though. Renta is a distributing site/platform that other companies use. Should Amazon be added then? I suggest adding a different section on a series page with links to the English version of the works, much like ANN that add links where to buy physical officially-licensed works.

I noticed this on bakaupdates and it made me confused if bookwalker was actually translating the books or Kadokawa was. super confusing. But if you actually search the books, it says the publisher is "Kadokawa", not bookwalker. So you're right, it is only an ebookstore. Maybe they'll start translating soon though.
