That's a lame way to find out...Just trick the other person into writing down the names of whom he/she likes? That's not even too accurate.

i don't think you'll know anything using this...the easiest way is to ask and observe your friend, you're friends so you should be able to figure it out.
frankly, this seems like a childish game....on the other hand you could just have a laugh over it...

heres the way I do it, go up to your friend and be like hey who do you like. As a guy, we usually dont tend to hide something like that.
