Welcome, I think that I ended up joing for the same reason. As for why the smileys are gray, I haven't really thought about that.

Grey is the standard british english whereas gray is the american form. Not much difference but certain american writers now use grey as a positive word and gray is used for a gloomy negative effect.

I just used "gray" because firefox spell checker hates "grey" 🙂

Really? That was the difference? Whenever I use that color, it's pretty random which one I use...

When I look at the word grey...I think grey looks more correct than gray...until I look at it for a long time, then they both look wrong... 😕
